Review: Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer In ‘6 Medium’

With 5 weddings to attend this month, my days of being well-rested are a thing of the past. Since my dark circles tend to deepen in such scenarios, I couldn’t resist picking up a tube of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Away Concealer in ‘6 Medium’. Here is my review.

The concealer comes packaged in a rose gold tube with a little window that shows you how much of the formula is left. Once you pop off the cap, you will notice a plush, sponge applicator. Whilst the sponge does help blend in the formula a bit, it also tends to hold a lot of the product, which results in wastage. I use the applicator to dot on the formula and then tap it in with my fingers or a small concealer brush. To dispense the product, you need to twist the bottom of the tube a couple of times. The exact shade name is mentioned on a sticker beneath the tube.

On the formula front, this concealer was quite a surprise. Unlike many other liquid concealers, this one had a thicker and creamier consistency. It spread across my skin easily, without tugging at it. ‘6 Medium’ is a light, beige hue with slightly warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. When I first applied it, I found it a little too yellow for my liking. However, after a few minutes, I realised that it had settled in to match my complexion. Although the concealer is touted as a full-coverage formula, I find that it gives me medium coverage at best. This works for me but could be a deterrent for some.

I’ve been testing this concealer for a few days now and can attest to the fact that it comes with a learning curve. When used on the area under my eyes, the formula stays put for about 6 hours and delivers a beautiful, blurring effect. However, when I tried using it around my nose and on a zit, I found that it slid off within the hour. Another problem was creasing. The concealer does enhance the fine lines on your skin, but a dusting of powder helps remedy the situation. On the plus side, the formula never feels dry or cakey.

All in all, this is a good concealer for those looking to camouflage their dark circles or for people with dry skin. I would recommend pulling off the sponge applicator and dispensing the formula straight from the nozzle so that you can get the most out of it.
