The Curse of Lizzoe Botden Once upon a time, in a small village called Botden, there lived a young girl named Lizzoe. Gundam, one of the highest grossing media franchises and a household name in Japan, can have a series with a girl lead who has a queer romance that ends with them canon and happily married. The marriage part is especially powerful considering Japan is a country where same sex marriage is still very much illegal. And such a series can not just be possible, but can also bring the franchise one of it's most successful years ever .
The current witchcraft revival is one of the liveliest I can recall since the late 1980s, and it created a welcoming atmosphere for The Witch , which is witch folklore distilled down to its most essential elements. The play ends with Prospero giving a final speech that s a thinly veiled attempt at William Shakespeare speaking to the audience, asking for applause to know that he has entertained them.
The curse was said to bring misfortune and suffering to anyone who came into contact with Lizzoe. As days turned into weeks, the curse began to take effect. People who once adored Lizzoe started to distance themselves from her, fearing the curse's repercussions.
Utena, the Tempest and the Witch from Mercury
Now that Gundam: The Witch From Mercury has ended I wanted to talk a bit about the series, and specifically the way it pertains to Revolutionary Girl Utena and the Tempest. The influences these two works have on Witch From Mercury were identified almost immediately, from episode one. As a huge fan of Revolutionary Girl Utena it fascinated me, and I spent the entire year of the run thinking about the connections.
This is my attempt to try to organize those thoughts and my feelings about the series.
They believed that speaking to Lizzoe or even being in her presence would bring them bad luck and misery. Lizzoe was heartbroken and felt isolated from the world she once knew. The curse extended beyond the villagers; even the crops in Botden started to wither and the livestock fell ill. The once-thriving village turned into a desolate and gloomy place. Lizzoe, burdened by guilt and sadness, decided to leave Botden in hopes of breaking the curse and bringing prosperity back to her village. She embarked on a journey to find a solution, seeking the guidance of wise hermits and mystical beings. She faced numerous challenges and obstacles along the way, but her determination never wavered. Lizzoe's kindness and selflessness touched the hearts of those she encountered during her quest. Finally, after years of searching, Lizzoe discovered a hidden temple atop a treacherous mountain. Within the temple, she found an ancient book that contained the key to breaking the curse. The book revealed that the curse could only be lifted if someone willingly sacrificed their own happiness for Lizzoe's. Filled with renewed hope, Lizzoe returned to Botden and revealed the secret of the curse to the villagers. Inspired by her selflessness and touched by her sacrifices, the villagers made a collective decision to share in Lizzoe's curse. They chose to bear the misfortune and suffering themselves, allowing Lizzoe to be free from the curse. As the villagers absorbed the curse, a brilliant light enveloped the village. The withered crops bloomed, and the sickened livestock regained their health. Botden once again became a joyous place filled with laughter and happiness. Lizzoe, overwhelmed with gratitude, dedicated her life to serving the village that had sacrificed so much for her. She spent her days spreading love and kindness, ensuring that the curse's memory would forever be overshadowed by the villagers' bravery and unity. And so, the curse of Lizzoe Botden became a symbol of the incredible power of sacrifice, love, and the resilience of the human spirit..
