Sea Gods Carta Marina CX first impressions

Thanks folks for help making the decision in the what should I buy threads! I went with the Carta Marina CX and have been out a few times now. I wanted to share my first impressions.

My background: Used to go kayaking in the Florida springs regularly in a sit-on-top kayak (pretty sure it was a Tarpon 105 but it's been a while) and sold it when I moved to the west coast. Spent a few months in Hawaii SUPing on some borrowed hard boards. Live in San Francisco, decided to finally embrace the cold cold waters and get a wetsuit and a paddleboard, so here I am!

This was my first time using an inflatable. In hindsight, I probably should have found a way to try out an inflatable before diving straight in. The major surprise here was stability. This board is much wider than the hard boards I used, yet feels much less stable. This is not a huge problem, it just took me by surprise. I was maybe too cocky when I first got on the board and had a very wobbly start (but didn't fall in!). After 20 minutes of paddling, I adjusted to it and don't feel too unstable. I was even comfortable taking it out into the ocean.

The other surprise for me was tracking. It's just. not that good? I can't compare to other inflatables, but it turns quite easily. (on the flipside, maneuverability is great!) I have to switch sides every couple of strokes to stay pointed in the same general direction. Maybe there is some improvement to be made on my paddling technique, I will keep practicing. Again, very different from the hard boards I paddled on before (those had a 3 fin configuration compared to the Carta's 1 fin). I'm already trying to find a fin that might significantly improve tracking (any recommendations that won't break the bank? I don't think I need some super light weight carbon monstrosity yet. )

On to the good stuff:

- The stiffness is great. When inflated it feels amazingly sturdy with verrry little flex, but at the same time kneeling on the board is comfortable.

- It's a ton of fun! Better than I imagined. I'm hooked.

- I love how rigid the carbon paddle is, no perceptible flex, feels like all my power is going into the water. The nylon blade is surprisingly heavy though, wish there was an option to swap it out.

- Despite the tracking not being great, it's easy to get some speed and cover significant distances without getting too tired.

- The board feels very high quality, and of course it's beautiful.

- I looove how lightweight it is. Carrying it over distances is no problem at all.

- The included 3 stage pump seems high quality, but inflating the board is still quite the workout. I'd rather have more time on the water so I bought an epump.

Even with the surprises, I feel like I likely made the right choice.

Reviews for "Stay up-to-date with Magic Springs' hours of operation and special events"

1. Sarah - 2 stars - I was looking forward to visiting Magic Springs during my vacation, but I was extremely disappointed with their hours of operation. The park closed at 4 pm on weekdays, which meant I barely had any time to enjoy the rides and attractions. It felt like such a waste of money, especially considering the high ticket prices. I would have loved to stay at the park until evening and experience the magical atmosphere, but unfortunately, that was not an option. Magic Springs should consider extending their hours to accommodate visitors who have limited time during the day.
2. Michael - 1 star - I had heard great things about Magic Springs, so I was excited to visit. However, the limited hours of operation completely ruined my experience. The park only stayed open until 6 pm on weekends, which is way too early. By the time I arrived, I barely had enough time to go on a few rides before it closed. It was incredibly frustrating, and I felt like I wasted my money. I would not recommend Magic Springs to anyone unless they change their hours to be more visitor-friendly.
3. Emily - 2 stars - I had been wanting to visit Magic Springs for a while, but I was disappointed with their hours of operation. The park closed at 5 pm during the week, making it difficult for those who work or have other commitments during the day to enjoy the park fully. It would have been nicer if they extended their hours during summer or on weekends. The limited operating times made it feel rushed, and I didn't get to experience everything the park had to offer. I hope Magic Springs takes customer feedback into consideration and adjusts their hours accordingly.
