In the world of A Darker Shade of Magic, there are four parallel versions of London: Grey London, Red London, White London, and Black London. Each of these cities has varying levels of magic, with Red London being the most vibrant and filled with magic, and Black London being overrun and destroyed by it. The main character, Kell, is a rare magician known as an Antari, who can travel between these different Londons. He works as an ambassador for Red London, carrying messages and trinkets between the different cities. However, Kell also has a more hidden shade of magic that sets him apart from other Antari. Kell possesses a powerful and dangerous ability: he can smuggle items from one London to another.
It was a feature the company lauded late last year, and Google is so proud of the seemingly magical function that it's the premise of its entire triple-length Super Bowl 2023 commercial. There's even a #FixedOnPixel hashtag where people can point out on social media how the feature has helped them — if you look between the posts from Doja Cat fans sharing behind-the-scenes clips and Google just advertising its phone, that is.
Doja Cat then arrives at an awards ceremony so she can show off the photo editor s other feature a blurry photo with some fans is made crystal clear. Somewhat unexpectedly, the Pixel 7 7 Pro Super Bowl spot doesn t feature any big football stars, instead enlisting seven-time NBA All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo, Grammy-winning rapper and singer Doja Cat, and Emmy-winning actress, comedian, and writer Amy Schumer to showcase the real-life utility of some of the neat software tricks up the two phones sleeves.
Kell possesses a powerful and dangerous ability: he can smuggle items from one London to another. This smuggling is strictly forbidden, as it can upset the balance of magic between the worlds and potentially open portals to Black London. Despite the risks, Kell engages in this secret trade, driven by a desire for adventure and a sense of rebellion against the rules imposed upon him.
Google's Pixel 7 Super Bowl commercial is full of stars and neat software tricks
There are a whole bunch of things Google has gotten a lot better at over the past couple of years in the mobile hardware game, starting with. the actual hardware quality, but if we were to pick just one department where the search giant is playing on a level field with the likes of Apple and Samsung nowadays, that's definitely advertising.
Big G can't really seem to miss when it comes to promoting its latest and greatest in-house products, doing a particularly splendid job of highlighting the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro's unique software strengths ever since it unveiled the two high-end stock Android handsets roughly four months ago.
Unsurprisingly, proprietary features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur are the center of attention once again in a new 90-second commercial also starring an assortment of entertainment and sporting celebrities.
The full ad is already up on the official "Made by Google" YouTube account before debuting on TV this Sunday in a presumably shortened version. Somewhat unexpectedly, the Pixel 7/7 Pro Super Bowl spot doesn't feature any big football stars, instead enlisting seven-time NBA All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo, Grammy-winning rapper and singer Doja Cat, and Emmy-winning actress, comedian, and writer Amy Schumer to showcase the real-life utility of some of the neat software tricks up the two phones' sleeves.
With Magic Eraser, Schumer (predictably) wipes all traces of her ex-boyfriends from old photos, while Giannis gets to hilariously dodge questions about his rare defending errors. Meanwhile, Doja Cat uses Photo Unblur to show off her flawless red carpet look, and a variety of "everyday" Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners (both human and feline) join the fun to demonstrate the incredible power and unrivaled versatility of the two camera-optimizing tools.
All in all, what we're looking at here is a fairly straightforward, conventional (in a good way), and effective ad that does a great job of emphasizing a key reason why a "normal" buyer would be interested in Google's newest mobile devices. The video itself is not groundbreaking, but the technology behind Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur is clearly impressive enough to attract some attention during the upcoming "Big Game" between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
We then see Giannis, who is at the mic for a press conference.

Reviews for "Illuminating the Darkness: Shedding Light on Kell's Hidden Shade of Magic"
1. Jane - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with "Kell with a more hidden shade of magic". I absolutely loved the original "A Darker Shade of Magic" but this sequel just fell flat for me. The plot felt disjointed and rushed, with too many random subplots that didn't contribute to the overall story. The character development was also lacking, leaving me uninvested in the fates of the protagonists. Overall, this book didn't live up to my expectations and I wouldn't recommend it to fans of the first book.
2. Mark - 2.5 stars - I found "Kell with a more hidden shade of magic" to be a letdown after reading the first installment. While the concept of multiple Londons and the magic system still intrigued me, the execution in this book wasn't as strong. The pacing was slow and it felt like nothing much happened until the final few chapters. Additionally, the romance between Kell and Lila felt forced and unnecessary, detracting from the main plot. Overall, I was underwhelmed by this book and it didn't captivate me like the original did.
3. Sarah - 3 stars - "Kell with a more hidden shade of magic" was an okay read for me. While I enjoyed revisiting the world of Red London and following the adventures of Kell, Lila, and the other characters, I felt that the story lacked depth compared to its predecessor. The plot felt predictable and there weren't as many high stakes moments to keep me on the edge of my seat. Although the writing was still elegant and the world-building was well done, it just didn't have the same impact as the first book. Overall, it was an average read that didn't quite live up to the hype for me.
