Of course evryone should keep in mind that Winx club was created in Italy as a Knockoff to cash in on the Success of The W.I.T.C.H. Comics, and threw in some Harry potter Aspects to keep things "Original".

We've just had the misfortune of having 4 Kids import it over before any kind of English language of Witch was made available.

Actually, here's the scoop (more or less), based on what I've read here on Toon Zone:

1. W.I.T.C.H. came out first as a comic book in April 2001.

2. In the summer of 2001, RAI started to preview a project then called Magical Bloom. The character designs at the time showed Bloom and her friends as 13 year olds.

3. However, because RAI wanted to differentiate their project from what Disney Worldwide Publishing (Italia) did, they shelved the original Magical Bloom concept and redid the characters to be three years older, which was revealed in the early fall of 2003 (more or less) as Winx Club.

4. Winx Club was the first series produced, first showing in Italy and France in early 2004 and on FoxBox here in the USA in June 2004.

5. Disney will show the first two animated episodes of W.I.T.C.H. on 18 December 2004 on ABC Kids as a preview, with the series starting in full in January 2005 on ABC Family and Toon Disney channels. I believe that the show will premiere in Europe in April 2005.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that there are even people that say Winx ripped off W.I.T.C.H. If you did any sort of research into the two series, you'd realize how very different they are. Their only major similarity is that there are five girls with powers. And gee, that sounds like a lot of other shows that came out before W.I.T.C.H., so there's really no need to say Winx ripped W.I.T.C.H. because others could easily turn it around and say W.I.T.C.H. ripped Sailor Moon or Tokyo Mew Mew or one of the dozens of shows with five teenage(ish) magical girls.

I say they're all different and should be appreciated as such.

Meh, my area slammed Jetix onto Sunday morning when Foxbox is on. Now i'm like everyone else being torn between different channels. Oh well, looks like im gonna have 2 VCRs running all morning long! ^.^

Still gonna see what's on the rest of this morning on jetix. This Dragon Booster show looks cool. So far its the best show i've seen on jetix at the moment (only show since this is my FIRST time watching Jetix). Muahaha..

Wait a minute, wasn't Winx and Witch made from the SAME people? If so, WHO GIVES A FLYING FREAK as to why or if one ripped off another. They have the right to do that if they want even if they did. Personally, i could care less, just as long as the episodes themselves aren't the same. If the show entertains me, i dont care if one ripped off the other, and neither should anyone else.

Sailormoon creator Naoko Takeuchi admitted that the show was influenced by earlier "magical girl" Japanese anime shows like Minky Momo and her love for sentai shows (e.g., what we know as Power Rangers).

But you have to admit there is quite a lot of animosity between W.I.T.C.H. fans and Winx Club fans in Italy; this is because W.I.T.C.H. fans felt RAI "rushed" to get Winx Club to TV to cash in on the popularity of W.I.T.C.H., ignoring the fact that original concept behind Winx Club dates from middle 2001!

I'm not pretending to now anything about the subject, but it sounds to me like a company had a project going (the Bloom thing), cancelled it, then saw that it was similar to WITCH, so they rushed it back into production to ride on the coattails of an established series.

However, from the two episodes I saw so far, it appears that Disney took some steps to differentiate themselves from Winx Club. If you've read the W.I.T.C.H. books so far published in the USA, you'll notice a lot of teenage romance in the series, just like what the Winx Club TV series has. The W.I.T.C.H. animated series is much more serious and has a vastly "darker" look, too.

It looks like the arguements between Winx Club and W.I.T.C.H. supporters in Italy and Frrance will soon spill over to the USA.

I can see now how people are saying that Winx and Witch are both alike.

1) Both sets of girls have wings when they transform (No other shows has wings when they transform)
2) Both shows has a missing girl on earth who's the heir to a throne
3) Both shows, the main character seems to be a 'new' girl with an important power/object

Cant think of any other similarities. But regardless, i like both shows. I like the Winx set of Wings over the Witch set of Wings, those witch wings just look. meh

Of course the Witch girls have cooler powers then the Winx girls. It seems Cornelia's powers seems to be the most powerfull out of the 5 girls.. take that back, out of the 4 girls. Will didnt do anything, all she did was transform the girls, fly around, and bark orders. meh. I wanna see what her power is. (closing the portals doesnt count)

I still like Will the best with Hay lin coming in second, Water girl in 3rd, fire girl in 4th (dont know their names) and Cornelia in dead last. I dont like her attitude, She and Riven would make a perfect couple. And i can definately see Will and Caleb (or is it Cedric? what's that boy's name?) as a couple.

Anyway, Ya, it seems that Winx is sorta a rip-off of Witch, but you know what? like i said before, I dont give a flying freak. Both shows are awesome, and neither of them have identical episodes, and that's all that's important. So people need to quit complaining about the whole 'rip-off' deal.

PS. Today was my first day watching Jetix and here's my opinion of Jetix as a whole: I taped all of Sunday and watch majority of Saturday morning's Jetix, (Didnt catch the first hour of Saturday Jetix so i cant give my opinion of that hour yet.) and the only good shows between both days is Dragon Booster and Witch. The rest of the shows.. (sans that monkey show, i haven't watched it yet, but it's taped and i'll get to it later) just suck (btw, that's just my opinion, and hold little meaning)

Jetix as a whole is small, but with DragonBooster and Witch on it, it'll increase my weekend cartoon marathon by 1 hour. YAY!
