And I thought someone rather prim and bookish would be a good contrast to Pagan, who s anything but; you need a bit of contrast when you re writing different characters. I wrote that book a long time ago, but looking back, I think my decision had something to do with the fact that epilepsy was regarded as rather unclean and frightening, because it was associated with evil spirits.
