I don’t go into much details of the process of printing the cards, but I cover that more extensively in my previous post on the subject print magic card proxies.

I don t go into much details of the process of printing the cards, but I cover that more extensively in my previous post on the subject print magic card proxies. I made a spreadsheet to track the cards I was interested in and started going through a digital archive of the Hellboy comics looking for appropriate artwork.

Making a Custom Hellboy Magic Deck

Since my project to print magic card proxies came out so well, I decided to make another. This time I made an entire EDH deck using art from Hellboy comics.

As a new dad, I don’t really have time for involved projects. Frankly, I didn’t have time for this project, but I had a little down time while I was on leave to work on this on and off.

I’ve been reading Hellboy on and off for probably 15 years now, and recently caught up to the conclusion of the main narrative. Like most comic books, the story is spread across multiple different series. Most notably “Hellboy” and “B.P.R.D”.

Trying to figure out the read order is a bit a a labyrinth (producing these fun graphics http://www.multiversitycomics.com/annotations/hellboy-reading-order-2021/), and I ended up downloading most of the series digitally to even figure out what I’d already read.

The original creator, Mike Mignola, has a interesting art style that alternates between detail and minimalism. The comics also cover such a huge variety of situations, I thought it would be well suited to mine to card art.

I spend most of this article going into the details of how I hacked the tooling a bit to make the process a bit easier for me, but here are the result:

I also made a custom engraved deck box to hold the results: Card Boxes

Reviews for "Embark on a Swashbuckling Journey with Curse of the Sea Rats"

1. Jane - 1 star
I was really disappointed with the debut date of Curse of the Sea Rats. The animation quality was incredibly subpar, with stiff character movements and lackluster visual effects. The voice acting also left much to be desired, as the emotions felt forced and robotic. Additionally, I found the storyline to be quite confusing and poorly executed. Overall, I cannot recommend this debut date to anyone looking for a well-made and engaging animated film.
2. Tom - 2 stars
Curse of the Sea Rats had potential, but it fell flat in many aspects. The pacing was incredibly slow, making it difficult to stay engaged throughout the debut date. The characters lacked depth and development, making it hard to relate to or care about their motivations. The humor was also underwhelming, with most jokes falling flat. While I appreciate the effort put into creating a unique storyline, the execution was lacking, resulting in a mediocre animated film.
3. Sarah - 2 stars
I had high hopes for Curse of the Sea Rats, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The animation style felt outdated and unpolished, and the character designs were uninspired. The musical score was forgettable, and it didn't enhance the viewing experience. The plot had potential, but it was poorly executed, leaving me confused and detached from the story. Overall, I found this debut date to be underwhelming and not worth the hype it received.
4. Peter - 1 star
Curse of the Sea Rats was a major disappointment for me. The voice acting was incredibly amateurish and lacked emotion, making it hard to connect with the characters. The animation, especially during action sequences, was choppy and lacked fluidity. The dialogue felt forced and unnatural, making it difficult to stay engaged in the story. I would not recommend this debut date to anyone who appreciates high-quality animation and storytelling.
