Lammas: The Wiccan Feast Day of Harvest and Gratitude

By admin

The Wiccan feast day calendar is an important tool for practitioners of Wicca to observe and celebrate various holidays and significant occasions throughout the year. Wiccans follow a nature-based spiritual path and honor the cycles of the seasons and the natural world. The calendar is divided into eight main festivals, also called Sabbats, which mark key points in the agricultural and celestial cycle. These festivals include the solstices and equinoxes, as well as the cross-quarter days which fall between them. Each festival has its own unique rituals, symbols, and mythologies associated with it, and Wiccans gather in groups or celebrate individually to honor these occasions. The Wiccan feast day calendar serves as a guide and reminder of the upcoming festivals, allowing practitioners to plan their celebrations and connection with nature accordingly.

The Pagan Origin of New Year’s Day

Here we are again, on the eve of another new year. And with it, the second round of celebrations before the year is over. Before I knew the origin of New Year’s Day, it was one of my favorite holidays, and celebrated it with gusto. For one, it is a fresh start; a new page.

How does the adage go? “Out with the old, in with the new?”

My favorite thing about the New Year was being able to better myself, grow, and not repeat the mistakes from the year before. Little did I know that far from being refreshing and about newness, New Year’s Day is a holiday steeped in pagan rituals and traditions, some of which are still practiced today.

They say ignorance is bliss, however, this is one instance when ignorance is not bliss. If you desire to fix that ignorance, read along to find out the pagan origin of New Year’s Day. If not, won’t you at least stay out of curiosity?

Okay, here we go!

The Wiccan feast day calendar serves as a guide and reminder of the upcoming festivals, allowing practitioners to plan their celebrations and connection with nature accordingly. In addition to the Sabbats, the calendar may also include other important dates and observances, such as full moons, new moons, and other astrological events. For many Wiccans, observing the feast day calendar is an integral part of their spiritual practice, as it provides meaningful opportunities for reflection, connection, and gratitude towards the natural world and the divine forces they believe in.

The Origin of New Year’s Day

Humans have celebrated the start of the new year for thousands of years. In most cases, these celebrations were linked to agricultural and astronomical events.

The earliest recorded New Year’s day celebration was 4,000 years ago in Babylon. It took place during the first new moon following the vernal equinox. Yes, the New Year actually begins in spring, not winter. This was so because there was an equal amount of sunlight and darkness heralding the start of a new year and representing the rebirth of the natural world.

1. John - 1 star - I was really disappointed with the Wiccan feast day calendar. The dates were all wrong and it didn't include some important holidays and celebrations that I was looking forward to. 2. Emily - 2 stars - I purchased the Wiccan feast day calendar hoping to have an easy reference for all the important Wiccan holidays throughout the year. However, I found the layout of the calendar to be confusing and the information provided to be limited. There were no explanations or descriptions of each holiday, so it was difficult for me as a beginner to understand their significance. I think this calendar could be greatly improved with better organization and more detailed information.
3. Sarah - 2 stars - As someone who follows Wiccan traditions and observes the feast days, I was excited to get the Wiccan feast day calendar. However, I was disappointed with its content. The calendar lacked accurate and comprehensive information about the different holidays and their significance. It was also poorly formatted, making it difficult to navigate. I had to double-check the dates on other sources since this calendar wasn't reliable enough. It was a letdown, and I would not purchase it again.
4. Michael - 2 stars - The Wiccan feast day calendar promised to be a useful tool for organizing and planning celebrations throughout the year. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The calendar had incorrect dates for some major Wiccan holidays, which caused confusion and inconvenience.
