This pandemic has introduced me to a bunch of new to me things and reading kind of fell to the side but I knew that I wanted to read this book and I knew that I was going to finish the Kate Daniels series this year and so I kept right on pushing through until there was no turning back. Kate and her father, Roland, currently have an uneasy truce, but when he starts testing her defenses again, she knows that sooner or later a confrontation is inevitable.
When magic is prevalent, technology fails, and vice versa. This creates a sense of instability and unpredictability in the world, as sometimes people are forced to rely on ancient and dangerous magical powers, while at other times, they must use more modern and technologically advanced weapons. Throughout the series, Kate finds herself facing off against various supernatural creatures and dealing with the political machinations of different factions in this unique world.
