This aging attraction is just one of a number of tourist traps in Salem capitalizing on the witch hysteria of the 17th century that took the lives of 20 Salem residents.

This is possibly the most well-known witch museum in all of Salem. From external appearances, it is definitely one of the most eye-catching and distinctive. The structure resembled a castle, with a large, arched stone entrance. Inside the attraction, the stage sets feature life-sized figures, themed lighting and a long narrative sound track, explaining many of the events of the late 1600s, during the Witch Trial period. Unfortunately picture-taking wasn't allowed, but thankfully there were many post cards in the gift shop, which featured the displays inside the museum.

In this attraction, there was a guided tour through multiple displays, each depicting witch culture, both past and present. The tour ended with a narrative, which attempted to dispel some of the common myths about modern witches. The main message was that witches are good, not evil. According to the tour guide, Wiccan beliefs dictate that people should only project positive energy. That goes hand-in-hand with the belief that everything you do comes back threefold. That seemed to be the resonating theme in a number of the museums and attractions that I visited. Before exiting the Witch Village, patrons were given the opportunity to rub the dragon's head, for luck.

This museum appeared to be set up inside an old church. Patrons sat in pews, while the actors performed, up on stage. A couple of live actresses performed a reenactment of one of the witch trials; there were also a few static mannequins on stage, for added atmosphere. Following the performance, patrons were led downstairs, to see a life-sized reproduction of jail cells that suspected witches were held in. While the jail cells were only a reproduction, they were built exactly to scale and one of the artifacts was real. An original timber from one of the jails, dating back to 1692, was prominently displayed above the jail cells.
