Dance can be performed individually or in a group, and it has different styles depending on the region or culture. Sage Gallagher, Board Chair started dancing as a child, mostly in her living room, but also taking tap and jazz classes and eventually some ballet in the San Francisco Bay Area. At fifteen, her sister helped get her into community dance classes taught at Stanford University. This was Sage’s first introduction to Modern Dance and she has never stopped loving this art form. At BYU she performed with Dancensemble for two years, choreographing and commissioning a 10-minute piece based on four seasons of her life to that point. Since graduating with a minor in Dance she has kept busy as a mom, only dancing a few times on her own while living for 13 years in the New York area. She taught a summer dance camp one year and attended a few beloved classes in NYC at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. After moving to St. George in 2013 she discovered the St. George Dance Company and quickly became involved through classes, performances, and joining the board.
Sage’s love of dance continues despite her other interests that keep her from dancing more often (that and now being a grandmother of two). She is grateful that SGDC gives adult dancers the space to create, perform, and share the wonderful art of dance.
Lisa Clements, Assistant Board Chair began her early training with a regional company in California and then as an apprentice with Sacramento Ballet until she attended BYU on scholarship. While pursuing BA and MA degrees in dance, she performed and toured with BYU Theater Ballet Co, under the direction of Yi Qi Cheng and Mark Lanham. Lisa received awards for teaching, choreography, and writing in addition to the Dancers’ Choice and Leona Holbrook awards. During her 25 plus years of teaching, she taught at BYU, was Assistant Director of the Youth Artists program (BYU), and directed ballet programs at various studios. Lisa danced professionally with UCDT (now known as Odyssey) under Daryl Yeager and received the 2017 Audience Choice award for choreography at the Red Rock Dance Festival. Just recently, she and her daughter Andrielle produced a full length, collaborative work called "Hope of the World, A Dance Nativity Concert". Currently, she is sharing her passion for great technique and artistry with the students DSU as well as On Stage Dance Studio in St. George. Lisa is also owner/designer of Tutu Art and Dance Costumes, and is grateful to be able to assist the St George Dance Company as a board member.
Sherlynn Davis, Company Manager has been a part of St. George Dance company since 2008. She took on the role of Executive director in 2013. She has an incredible passion for dance and believes that for a dancer it is essential for them to continue dance throughout their life to be truly fulfilled. She started dancing at 14 and danced through high school and into college. She took an 8 year break thinking she was too “old'' and to “busy” to dance, but soon realized that without dance life had lost its savor and committed that no matter what, there is always time for dance. Therefore she strives in creating dance opportunities for adult dancers in Southern Utah and is not afraid to take on challenging projects to benefit the amazing art of dance.
She recognized that not everyone loves to dance but believes they need an artistic outlet to be connected and filled. By exploring other art forms she has found a deep love and appreciation for artistic expression in all of it’s forms. She currently serves as the Chairman of the St. George Arts Commission. She loves the variety of art in St. George, and is dedicated to helping the arts flourish here. She also likes reading, gardening, musical theater, and snowboarding.
Sarah Reynolds, Executive/Artistic Director found her people when she discovered St George Dance Company. Sarah has 26 years’ experience of dance performance and teaching dance. She started out studying ballet but eventually found her true place when she began training in modern dance. She earned her BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. She has had the opportunity of working with incredible choreographers and dancers such as Jennie, Jones, Satu Humasti, Abby Fiat, Ifen Lin, Peter Pucci and The Martha Graham Dance Company, among others. Teaching dance is one of Sarah’s favorite aspects of dance. She has taught ballet, modern and contemporary for competition and performance studios such as PowerPlus Studios in Taylorsville Utah and Midland Festival Ballet in Midland, TX. She is thrilled to be teaching the intermediate contemporary community class for St. George Dance Company. Sarah has also loved performing for St. George Dance Company. Her favorite role was The Gangster in the Gatsby Murder Mystery. Outside of dance, Sarah is a part time editor for Carpe Vitam Press and a piano teacher to
a small group of amazing students. She is happily settled in the sunshine and red rocks of St George with her husband, three raucously active boys and chubby Vizsla.
Daniel Shannon Davidson, Treasurer goes by his middle name, Shannon. He was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, near Seattle Washington, and moved to the St. George area early this year. Shannon has worked in leadership, administration, and finance for five years and has his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, with certificates in Accounting and Management; he begins his Masters Degree in Business Administration and Finance this coming Spring. Shannon's core passions are finance education, music, and the arts. He plays guitar and piano, and loves writing music, but only recently began taking dance classes as a way to meditate and remain fit.
Rachel Holman, Dancer Representative is a passionate dance educator with her MFA in Choreography and Performance in Dance from the University of Arizona. She also received her BS degree in Dance and Health Education from Southern Utah University where she returned as an adjunct faculty member to teach advanced modern and jazz dance. Her choreography was selected to perform most recently for the Tucson Museum of Art Grasslands Art Exhibit, University of Arizona True Places Concert, Southern Utah University Elevated Movements Concert, Southern Utah’s Red Rock Dance Festival, and Dixie State University Sear Art Gallery. She also has an extensive musical theatre and dance performance background including lead understudy and dancer in the National Broadway Tour of the musical Footloose and Cassie in A Chorus Line. She currently teaches master classes in the community and serves as a guest artist and judge at festivals and competitions. Rachel is the Assistant Artistic Director and principal dancer for the St. George Dance Company.
Kimball Forbes, Legal Advisor is an attorney with the law firm Jenkins Bagley, PLLC. He was raised in southern Utah and graduated summa cum laude from Southern Utah University and with honors from the S.J. Quinney College of Law (University of Utah).
Bette Arial, Incoming Assistant Chair By the way she lives, it is evident that Bette loves her faith, family, country, state and especially her city! If she is needed, she makes time. She believes that if you don't step forward, you will stay in the same place. She is grateful for many wonderful mentors in St George who are great examples. Currently, she is Southern Utah Director for Senator Mike Lee. For ten years she was Vice President of Legislative and Community Relations for EnergySolutions, Southern Utah Field Director for the First Congressional District for five years, and Public Relations Specialist for the Bureau of Land Management, Arizona Strip for ten years. She concurrently taught Modern Dance at Dixie State University. Arial has served on, and presided over, numerous local and state boards and committees, including president of Celebrity Concert Series, elected to the Utah State Board of Education, appointed a member of the Utah Humanities Council, Trustee of Dixie State University, chairman of the Committee for Consumer Service under the Department of Public Utilities, a member of the Community Impact Board under the Department of Economic Development and co-founder of the Arizona Strip Interpretive Association. Bette has a B.S. Degree from Brigham Young University, loves to read, garden, play tennis and has an extensive collection of WWII movies and books. She and husband Rick, are the parents of four children and eleven and a half grandchildren.
