Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was an attractive princess named Sofia. Sofia lived in a magical castle surrounded by a breathtaking floral paradise. The flowers in her kingdom were vibrant and colorful, filling the air with a sweet, enchanting fragrance. Sofia's kingdom was like a fairy tale come alive. The flora bloomed all year round, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of nature's beauty. It was a place where dreams turned into reality, and anyone who visited would be instantly captivated by its charm.


Dream House invites us to contemplate notions of home and nourishment—safety and emotional comfort, the work of mental and spiritual growth, as well as abundance and fullness—through unique displays of ceramic s , textile s , sculpture s , paintings, and Simpson’s first-ever works in video, all created in collaboration with the FWM Studio team specifically for this exhibition.

It was a place where dreams turned into reality, and anyone who visited would be instantly captivated by its charm. The princess herself was a vision of grace and elegance, with her flowing golden locks and sparkling emerald eyes. Every day, she would roam through the flower-filled gardens, wearing a gown made of petals crafted by the most skilled seamstresses in the land.

The sculptural figures in Rose B. Simpson’s installation Witness invite visitors to reflect on fundamental aspects of being human—as sentient, reactive, and impactful. Simpson’s work interrogates the human condition as an accumulation of lived experiences, distilling specific aspects of such moments in her own life into each sculpture. Through her work, Simpson seeks the tools to heal the damages she has experienced as a human being—issues such as objectification, stereotyping, and the disempowering detachment of our creative selves through modern technology . Traces of such experiences attach to the sculptures’ bodies or heads, where humans absorb and process information, while their accoutrements and upright posture, with heads held high, confirm the dignity of individuals who accept these experiences. The sculptures seek empathetic responses from those who witness them; they look back at us, demanding introspection and acknowledgment of our actions. Simultaneously, Simpson’s slap-slab clay construction method preserves impressions of her hands and fingerprints; she accepts these imperfections as inevitable. The resulting works are—like all people—the sum of their experiences. Curated by Bryan R. Just, Peter Jay Sharp, Class of 1952, Curator and Lecturer of Art of the Ancient Americas.

She would listen to their troubles and offer them comfort, using her gentle touch and soothing words to bring solace to their hearts. But amidst all the splendor, Sofia remained humble and grounded. She saw herself as a guardian of the floral paradise, responsible for its preservation and harmony. She would spend hours tending to the flowers, ensuring that they received enough sunlight and water to flourish. As the princess grew older, her desire to share the magic of the floral paradise intensified. She organized festivals and events where people could immerse themselves in the enchanting atmosphere of her kingdom. Guests would arrive, dressed in extravagant outfits adorned with flowers, and dance the night away in celebration of nature's wonders. Sofia's kingdom became a symbol of hope and serenity for all who knew of it. The magic of the floral paradise touched not only the hearts of the visitors, but also the neighboring kingdoms, who would send emissaries to learn from Sofia's wisdom and seek advice on matters of love, harmony, and peace. In the end, Sofia's legacy lived on through the memories she created in the hearts of her people. Her enchanting floral paradise became a symbol of love, beauty, and unity, forever reminding those who experienced it of the power of nature's wonders..
