Growing up with three siblings, one of which has his birthday only two days after mine, my parents tried their best to make our birthdays special. On my 10th birthday, I received a blue three-speed bike. Aside from that, the only other gift I remember receiving was a small wooden trinket box my mother had polyurethaned with some random magazine pictures and a groovy picture of me with a “shag” haircut and the date 1976 on the inside. That was 36 years ago—and I still have my trinket box today.
Now that I’m a mother of two, I think about those special celebrations of my childhood. - Get crafty and make something for your child each year. A special pillow, frame, jewelry box or toy chest. She may not appreciate it now, but in years to come those handmade mementos are going to be the gifts she cherishes.
- Create a time capsule. Each year on your child’s birthday put a photo of your child, a newspaper, perhaps a drawing your child made and a note of all that is going on in your life. File away for the next year or for years to come.
- The birthday chair. Go on ahead, it’s been a tradition in my family for years, and to this day I still get to sit in the birthday chair complete with balloons and handmade cards— and now, so do my lucky kids!

1. Jane - 2/5 - I was really disappointed with Colorpop Feels Like Magic. The colors in the palette were not as vibrant as I expected and the pigmentation was lacking. The eyeshadows were also very powdery, resulting in a lot of fallout during application. I found it difficult to create the looks I wanted with this palette and ended up having to use other eyeshadows to make it work. Overall, I don't think it lived up to the hype and I wouldn't recommend it.
2. Mark - 3/5 - I had high hopes for Colorpop Feels Like Magic but it didn't quite meet my expectations. While some of the shades were beautiful and easy to work with, there were others that were patchy and hard to blend. The palette also lacked variety in terms of finishes, with most shades being shimmery. I wish there were more matte shades to create a well-rounded look. Additionally, the packaging felt cheap and flimsy. It's an okay palette, but I've definitely used better.
3. Lisa - 1/5 - This palette was a complete waste of money for me. The colors looked stunning in the pan, but once applied they turned out to be dull and lacking in pigmentation. I struggled to make them show up on my eyelids, even with a good primer. The formula was also very powdery, resulting in fallout all over my face. The overall quality of the eyeshadows was just not good and I regret purchasing this palette. Save your money and invest in a better quality product.
