Helga Eveshim is the deuteragonist of the 1983 Roald Dahl novel The Witches, and it's 1990 movie adaptation. In the film, she is portrayed by the late Mai Zetterling. She is secretly a former witch hunter, whose life mission was to find and destroy the terrible Grand High Witch.

Despite their apprehension, they couldn't help but be drawn to her peculiar existence. One day, a young girl named Emily ventured into the forest and stumbled upon Helga's hut. Intrigued by the rumors and the allure of magic, she decided to summon the courage to approach the witch.

Helga the witch

Helga welcomed her with a mix of curiosity and amusement. As Emily spent time with Helga, she realized that the rumors were far from true. Helga was wise and compassionate, using her powers for good rather than evil. She taught Emily the secrets of nature and the magical properties of the forest. Over time, Helga and Emily developed a deep bond, like that of a mentor and student. Helga guided Emily in harnessing her own latent magical abilities and encouraged her to embrace her uniqueness. Together, they ventured into the forest, unraveling its mysteries and protecting its inhabitants from harm. Despite the initial fear and prejudice from the villagers, they eventually came to see Helga and Emily's positive impact on the community. The potions Helga brewed became remedies for ailments, and her enchantments brought luck and prosperity. Helga's story serves as a reminder that appearances can be deceiving and that true power lies not in magic, but in the kindness and wisdom we possess. She defied the stereotypes associated with witches and became a symbol of compassion and knowledge in her village. In the end, Helga's legacy lived on in the hearts and minds of those she touched. Through her friendship with Emily, she brought about a change in perception and allowed others to embrace and appreciate the extraordinary in ordinary life..
