Subject: Almost brilliant
There's a lot of ham acting by the villain, a walking Aztec mummy, guns that make gunfire sounds but don't fire bullets, a luchador, and a snake pit. I would've liked more mummy action, but it's still fun.

Subject: Another Mexican Wrestler stinker
Oh the cheese. I love these sixties Mexican imports. A masked wrestler helps a scientist (I think) defeat the curse of an Aztec Mummy (yes, again!) and save his daughter (also again). There's an annoying kid and lots of inexplicable events complete with the old, "let's tie him up and leave him to die while he escapes" routine. 4 out of 5 cheese wedges! Be warned, it drags.

The evil Dr. Krupp, once again trying to get possession of the Aztec princess Xochitl's jewels, hypnotizes her current reincarnation, Flor, to get her to reveal the jewels' location - Xochitl's tomb. Confusion reigns as Krupp and his thugs are opposed by Flor's lover, Dr. Almada, his assistant, and wrestling superhero, El Angel. Krupp finally meets his match, however, when he comes up against Popoca, the warrior mummy who guards Xochitl's tomb.

Mexico What the actual…..I thought I was getting a horror film about an Aztec Mummy (title and all that) and instead I got an annoying luchador wrestler hopping around speaking like the cartoon version of Spiderman from the 1960’s. Some real strong Saturday morning vibes here. This is my first Aztec Mummy movie, since I can't find the first one I guess this will have to do. The most obvious flaw here is the lack of Aztec Mummy in the Aztec Mummy movie. THIS SHIT ROCKED . Let's get this out of the way: if you come to this movie expecting some amazing mummy action, you will be disappointed. The mummy DOES appear and absOLUTELY kicks ass - but that's at the very end of the flick, which is a really weird flex but okay. A considerable improvement over the original, now with a lucha libre element with Crox Alvarado playing an alter ego luchador to his sidekick character, dual role that is. Is still far from being the cult classic it could be, the noirish gangster plot overtakes the story, and the mummy is once more barely in this. Not bad, not great.

I still have a lot of research to do before I'll feel comfortable stating this definitively, but it seems like this movie may have been more influential than I gave it credit for. While the enmascarado character of El Ángel may be somewhat clumsy an unimpressive in this movie, I would imagine the introduction of this (eerily similar looking) crime-fighting luchador may have set the stage for El Santo's prodigious film career!
Probably my favorite in the Aztec mummy films. There's like 5 of them and this one had the best acting and plot. It's still a shitty B-movie with terrible fight scenes, but the movie is kind of scary. The mummy is super fucking creepy. Kind of slow paced, but all worth it for the end with the epic fight with the mummy.

it’s 50s horror from Mexico. You know exactly what you’re getting into. Same director, same year, same great Tana Leaf taste. The Dick Tracy influence right out the gate is jarring in this one. Day 22: Watch a Mummy movie More of a crime thriller with a little bit if Mummy action at the end rather than a horror film about a Mummy. The Mummy had a cool design, but the quality of the film was pretty bad, so you don't get the best look at him. A very short runtime with very little Mummy screentime. I wanted to watch the first Aztec Mummy, but was unable to find it in English, luckily this film gives a recap of the first, so it's easy to watch this one independently.
After spending most of the first installment in the shadows, caped, in a black mask, plotting as the sketchy "The BAT", actor Luis Aceves Castañeda makes up here, in the double role of Dr. Krupp and Murcielago.
"La maldición de la momia Azteca" as a 2nd installment, starts off rather promising, where director Portillo's film already streched mash up of ancient-curse, gangster- crime-angle and incompetent-luchador-blend, keeps it tame briefly, just enough to catch up with the convulsion of its narrative.
"Murcielago" escapes from police with the help of his fedora cronies, while challenged by the oversized masked "El Angel" (Crox Alvarado) - who seems to be not very effective at countering villains in rusty style lucha libre moves.
