Ravens mascot injured in halftime football game

Poe, the Baltimore Ravens’ bird mascot, was carted off at halftime of Saturday night's game against the Washington Commanders with an apparent injury.

ESPN reported that the mascot was hurt while playing in a halftime football game between a squad of mascots and a youth football team.

Poe remained on the field for nearly five minutes because, according to the report, observers were unsure whether he was really injured.

One report said that the person in the suit may have suffered a torn ACL.

An update on the mascot's injury was not expected to come on Saturday night.

The Ravens would win the contest, 17-15, extending their record preseason winning streak to 23 straight games.

The Commanders pulled within two with 5:31 remaining when Sam Howell threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Bonnafon. A 2-point conversion pass was incomplete, helping preserve the streak, but Baltimore defensive back Kevon Seymour injured an ankle on the play. Teammate Zakoby McClain appeared to fall on Seymour’s right leg.

It was in this preseason matchup last year that the Ravens lost running back J.K. Dobbins to a season-ending knee injury. They seemed to avoid anything that serious this year — although in addition to the injury to Poe, Baltimore also announced that defensive tackle Aaron Crawford went down with a groin problem.

Neither team was taking too many chances: Quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Carson Wentz were among those who didn’t play.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Injuries are often the most significant news from the NFL’s preseason.

Not even the mascot is safe sometimes.

Poe, the Baltimore Ravens’ bird mascot, was carted off at halftime Saturday night with an apparent injury. It was not clear what happened to the person wearing the Poe costume.

Other mascots joined Poe for a halftime game during Baltimore’s preseason matchup against the Washington Commanders. Poe was lying on the ground when the cart came out and he was lifted onto it and driven off.

It is believed to possess the power to harness and channel energy. The act of stirring ingredients in the cauldron is thought to enhance the potency of spells and potions. The cauldron is also associated with the element of water, as it is often filled with water or other liquids during rituals.

Ravens mascot Poe suffers serious drumstick injury, team searching for replacement

BALTIMORE, Md. - Poe, the Baltimore Ravens mascot, has been placed on the injured reserve list after sustaining an injury to his drumstick, Head Coach John Harbaugh announced Thursday.

Harbaugh said Poe will not be able to perform for the rest of the season, and that the team is looking for a replacement. "We're going to go to work on that right away. We're going to turn over every stone, scour everywhere. We'll find his replacement," Harbaugh told reporters. "We're going to get right into evaluating our options, see where we go next, and see if we can find somebody to replace Poe."

Harbaugh burst into laughter after the announcement, however, it's unclear whether the person inside the suit actually suffered an injury.

Poe was tackled by a youth football player Saturday during the Mascot Classic, which took place during halftime of the Ravens preseason game against the Washington Commanders. At the time, he was carted off the field by the team's medical staff. Initial reports mentioned Poe tearing his ACL.

The Ravens tweeted that he was "resting comfortably in his perch awaiting further test results," after the game.

Linebackers Vince Biegel, and DAvid Ojabo plus tight end Charlie Kolar, are also currently on the Ravens injured reserve list. The Ravens are set to face the New York Jets Sunday, Sept. 11 when the team's NFL regular season kicks off.
