Werewolves also emerged in early Nordic folklore. The Saga of the Volsungs tells the story of a father and son who discovered wolf pelts that had the power to turn people into wolves for ten days. The father-son duo donned the pelts, transformed into wolves and went on a killing rampage in the forest. Their rampage ended when the father attacked his son, causing a lethal wound. The son only survived because a kind raven gave the father a leaf with healing powers.

The Cursed: trailer released for werewolf movie formerly known as Eight for Silver
It’s really unfortunate writer/director Sean Ellis‘s 1800s-set werewolf horror film Eight for Silver has been re-titled The Cursed , a title so bland and generic that I wasn’t even interested in watching the newly released trailer… until I remembered The Cursed is now the title of that werewolf movie I’ve been looking forward to. The trailer can be seen in the embed above, and judging by that it looks like The Cursed is going to be a much better movie than its new title suggests.
Our own Chris Bumbray had the chance to watch the film as part of the Sundance Film Festival last year and gave it a 7/10 review.
Here’s the synopsis for The Cursed, according to Wikipedia:
In the late nineteenth century, brutal land baron Seamus Laurent slaughters a Roma clan, unleashing a curse on his family and village. In the days that follow, the townspeople are plagued by nightmares, Seamus’s son Edward goes missing, and a boy is found murdered. The locals suspect a wild animal, but visiting pathologist John McBride warns of a more sinister presence lurking in the woods.
Boyd Holbrook (The Predator), Kelly Reilly (Eden Lake), Alistair Petrie (Victor Frankenstein), Roxane Duran (The Way to Happiness), and Áine Rose Daly (the Amazon series Hanna) star.
Speaking with Variety, Ellis said The Cursed was “inspired by a love for horror classics”:
I wanted to go back to a genre piece. I’m a big fan of horror films. Films like Alien and The Thing had a big influence on me. … I felt it needed to be a period film – they’re more cinematic. When you do a period piece you’re creating a world. I think cinema is about visiting other worlds.”
Ellis also revealed that his film features “a kind of werewolf that audiences haven’t seen before” because
I kind of love the werewolf mythology but I hadn’t loved where it had gone. It felt like zombies had been updated and we could do many different things with that. There was just this cliché of what the werewolf was.”
In bringing the monsters to the screen, the filmmaker found “old school special effects and animatronics more powerful than CGI” and tried to do as much of the creature action in camera as possible – and he has even cut down the amount of CGI effects since the Sundance screening.
As the trailer reveals, The Cursed is scheduled to reach theatres on February 18th.
As we'll see, these productions were also plagued by on-set strangeness, a trend that has continued as the horror space has grown. Difficult shoots often seem to start with the source material, as if what is being depicted in these films is so disturbing that no one involved can escape its toll.
Now, under the light of the full moon, the afflicted individual metamorphoses into a fearsome creature. In the darkest hours of the night, the werewolf emerges, as if possessed by an uncontrollable force. Terrifying howls pierce the stillness, sending shivers down the villagers' spines. No one is safe from the wrath of the moon's curse, as the werewolf's insatiable hunger drives it to hunt for prey. The werewolf curse teaser is a haunting reminder of the thin veil between human and beast. As the villagers anxiously await the next full moon, they grow ever more vigilant, trying to uncover the secrets that will break the curse and bring peace back to their once idyllic surroundings. The curse resonates with primal fears and questions the boundaries of their own humanity. Will the villagers find the courage to confront this ancient curse and discover a way to release the trapped souls within? Or will the eerie howls continue to echo through the mystic forest, forever reminding them of the terrifying power of the werewolf curse?.

1. Emily - 1/5 stars - I was really disappointed with the "Werewolf curse teaser". The storyline was confusing and poorly developed. The characters lacked depth, and I couldn't connect with any of them. The graphics were also subpar, and the overall design felt outdated. I expected a thrilling and suspenseful experience, but instead, I was left feeling bored and uninterested. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on this game.
2. John - 2/5 stars - "Werewolf curse teaser" didn't live up to my expectations. The gameplay was repetitive and lacked originality. The puzzles were basic and didn't offer much of a challenge. The voice acting was monotonous and uninspiring, making it hard to stay engaged. Additionally, the game had numerous glitches and technical issues that disrupted the overall experience. Despite the premise holding promise, the execution was poor, resulting in a lackluster and forgettable gaming experience.
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I found "Werewolf curse teaser" to be underwhelming. The storyline was predictable, and I could anticipate the twists and turns before they happened. The dialogue felt forced and unnatural, making it hard to immerse myself in the game. The controls were also clumsy and unresponsive, leading to frustration during gameplay. Overall, the game lacked creativity and failed to deliver the suspense and excitement I was expecting from a werewolf-themed adventure.
4. David - 1/5 stars - I was highly disappointed by "Werewolf curse teaser". The graphics were outdated and pixelated, making it visually unappealing. The sound effects were repetitive and irritating, adding to the overall annoyance. The gameplay was slow-paced and dull, failing to hold my interest. Additionally, the limited choices and linear storyline made the game feel like a chore rather than an immersive experience. I would not recommend wasting your time or money on this lackluster game.
5. Megan - 1/5 stars - "Werewolf curse teaser" was a complete letdown. The characters were poorly developed and lacked personality. I found myself not caring about their fates or their journey. The gameplay was monotonous, and the puzzles were unoriginal and unimaginative. The overall design felt amateurish and poorly executed. It's unfortunate because I had high hopes for this game, but it failed to deliver anything remotely enjoyable. Save yourself the disappointment and skip this one.
