Hi Kelly, I am not familiar with Sun Warrior Protein and did some research. Even tho it has great basics, it's values (ratiios, etc) are similar to most of the better protein powders out there. Do you think this can be made with a whey protein? Also, did you use the unflavored in the recipe as I am not able to figure that out. I even went to the Quest website to see if yours was like theres but their protein has too many additives. Keeping it pure and simple looks the best but I still need/want the info. Can you or any of the other readers help ol' me? Thanks. Your other mother, marleen

I am going to HAVE to make this (since I have a gellato addiction). However, as a quicker alternative to making the mixture actual ice cream (and for anyone who doesn't have an actual ice cream maker). You can use a simple science project I did with my girl scout troop ;-) Put your liquid ice cream mixture into a quart freezer bag and seal all the air out of it. Place it into a larger gallon size Zip Lock freezer bag, and add about 4 huge handfuls of ice and about a cup of kosher or sea salt (rock salt is best though) and seal as much air out of the bag as possible. Put on gloves or wrap in a towel (the bag gets SUPER cold) and shake (not super hard. I actually just alternate sides and gently rock it back and forth, then flip and repeat). Do it until your ice cream is the consistency you like (you can feel it through the bag). Also. you get a little upper arm workout. LOL! Well done! I just made this and it's very good. Creamy and cold. Just one thing though. I will have to double the recipe since my ice cream maker is too large for 1 cup recipe. A puree this concoction with a banana and wow what a treat! thank you!

How much is one scoop? Do you know how many grams or at least some sort of measurement because I know that many other protein powder scoop sizes vary. So I was just wondering. But this looks delicious! And I will definitely be making it.

Hi Kelly! I'm sorry if this question is redundant. I don't have an ice cream maker, so do I make the mixture with 1 cup almond milk, freeze it, and then add another 1/4 cup almond milk in the blender?

Wow, this was amazing! I made it with whey protein powder and used coffee instead of cocoa - incredibly good and I can't believe how healthy it is!

I made this with Jay Robb vanilla whey protein powder. It was very easy and made a nice treat. I used dark cocoa powder and added 1/2 tsp instant coffee powder to enhance the chocolate flavor. It only took 10 minutes in my ice cream machine. I will make this again, maybe experimenting with different flavors of protein powder. Thanks!

I made this once with chocolate whey protein powder and everything else as written. It was a quick tasty treat! I made it again with peanut butter whey protein powder and 1 tbsp protein flour instead of cocoa powder and it was AMAZING!

Sorry, but how do you arrive at 120 calories? Looks like a scoop of Sun Warrior is 100 calories, almond milk is at least 30 calories, and that's not counting the cocoa powder, etc. Am I looking at the wrong protein powder? If I use my Jay Robb powder and unsweetened almond milk, it will still only be at 150 calories for the entire yummy dessert, so thanks VERY much for posting this. I cannot wait to try this.

Being British,what is the measurement for 1 scoop,i would like to try this recipe as just been diagnosed type 2 diabetic but still like something indulgent now and again.

Great recipe! I tweaked it a bit to make low fat, high protein Strawberry Ice Cream. Used Clover Non-Fat Milk (10g Protein, 0g Fat) vs. Almond Milk, 2 Scoops of Chocorite Strawberry Cream whey protein mix (24g Protein, 3g Fat) and left out the Cocoa Powder. Blended and poured into a Breville Smart Scoop ice cream maker. Results - amazing! Just like soft serve ice cream.

I was really disappointed with Protein ice cream with a touch of magic. The flavor was nothing special and it had a weird texture that I couldn't get past. It also didn't have that creamy mouthfeel that I expect from ice cream. Overall, I wouldn't waste my money on this product again.
