In Along an African Border, anthropologist Sónia Silva examines how Angolan refugees living in Zambia use these divination baskets to cope with daily life in a new land. Silva documents the special processes involved in weaving the baskets and transforming them into oracles. She speaks with diviners who make their living interpreting lipele messages and speaks also with their knowledge-seeking clients. To the Luvale, these baskets are capable of thinking, hearing, judging, and responding. They communicate by means of jipelo articles drawn in configurations, interact with persons and other objects, punish wrongdoers, assist people in need, and, much like humans, go through a life course that is marked with an initiation ceremony and a special burial. The lipele functions in a state between object and person.

The PDF format of the book focused on African divination

Calundu was an African-derived religious practice known in colonial Brazil, most widely recognized in Minas Gerais during and following that region’s early eighteenth-century gold rush. Drumming, chant, and dance channeled healing and divinational powers brought about primarily through trance possession. Severely disrupted by Church intervention, descriptions of calundu found in Portuguese Inquisition testimony join the published observations by European travelers as windows into the social history of Minas Gerais, an important yet often overlooked cultural territory of Brazil. This region of gold, diamonds, and coffee formed one of the most intense, highly populated slave operations known in the Western Hemisphere. Calundu’s practitioners, its musical worlds and social spaces, promote the parallelism argument that contrasts theories of syncretism and creolization. Calundu’s fatal narrative as an independent system of thought paralleling Catholicism forms a chapter in the African Diaspora’s vital history.

Reviews for "Mozart on Demand: Exploring the Accessibility of the YouTube Magic Cube"

1. John - ★☆☆☆☆
I was really disappointed with the "Mozart youtube magic cube". Firstly, the cube didn't seem to respond properly to my movements. It often registered the wrong gestures, which made the whole experience frustrating. Additionally, the music selection was extremely limited and repetitive. It would have been nice to have a broader range of Mozart's compositions to choose from. Overall, I feel like the concept had potential, but it definitely needs some improvements to be enjoyable.
2. Emily - ★★☆☆☆
I tried out the "Mozart youtube magic cube" and it just didn't live up to my expectations. The interface was quite clunky and not user-friendly at all. It took me a while to figure out how to navigate through the cube and access the different music options. The sound quality was also disappointing. The music sounded tinny and distorted, which really took away from the overall experience. I think there are better alternatives out there for enjoying Mozart's music online.
3. Mark - ★★☆☆☆
I had high hopes for the "Mozart youtube magic cube", but sadly, it fell short. The cube itself felt poorly constructed and cheap, and it didn't respond well to my gestures. It often lagged or glitched, which made it difficult to create a smooth and seamless music-playing experience. Additionally, the music selection was limited to popular Mozart compositions, which got repetitive after a while. I wouldn't recommend this product if you're looking for a high-quality and immersive Mozart listening experience.
4. Sarah - ★☆☆☆☆
The "Mozart youtube magic cube" was a huge disappointment for me. The cube was difficult to control and often didn't recognize my gestures, which made it frustrating to use. The music itself was just not enjoyable. It sounded cheap and poorly mixed, making it hard to appreciate the beauty of Mozart's compositions. I think there are much better ways to experience Mozart's music than this gimmicky and poorly executed product. Save your money and look elsewhere for a more enjoyable listening experience.
