Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids: Disney Magic Timer App
Well, I have the solution for you! Disney Magic Timer App is the perfect way to get toddlers and preschoolers interested and engaged in the toothbrushing process.
I first learned about this amazing app when I received the free Oral-B toothbrush (and mouthwash) from my dentist after my 5-year old’s appointment (which you can read all about in Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids: Positive Changes). Of course I was just as excited as my kids to see that it was a Disney themed toothbrush. Tyler received Cars and Trevor got Planes!
When I got home, I noticed the sticker for the FREE Disney Magic Timer App. So I pulled out the iPad and downloaded it. In true Disney fashion, this app was perfect for my kids.
Here is how it works:
First, you are invited to watch a short tutorial video giving an overview of the app and how to get started.
Second, you are asked to create a brusher profile. Children are able to choose a character to represent them.
Characters range from Disney classics to Marvel superheroes. Tyler chose the Hulk, and Trevor chose Sully. You are allowed several brushers so it’s great for families of all sizes. Once you choose your character, then you type in your child’s name.
Kids can choose from a wide variety of Disney and Marvel characters as their profile picture!
Once the profile is set up, the child will have his/her own page to keep track of their toothbrushing progress. The page has a calendar log and sticker chart (I will explain more later). It is also where they can use the timer each morning and night.
Third, you are ready to brush! Touch the toothbrush icon on your profile page. You can then either scan your toothbrush or just hit the arrow to move on. If you scan your brush, the timer will be based on the character on your child’s brush. If you choose to bypass this step, you will have another theme such as Mickey Mouse.
This is what the profile page looks like. To start the timer, just press the toothbrush icon!
The timer is set for 2 minutes. Once it begins, the child will hear fun music while a toothbrush brushes away bubbles on the screen to reveal a fun Disney picture. When the 2 minutes are up, the entire picture will be revealed and fireworks burst on the screen. I love seeing the excitement in my kids’ eyes when this happens! It gives them a real sense of accomplishment!

After each brushing, the child will earn 1/2 a star (one in the morning and one at night to create a full star each day). The stars are recorded on the calendar located on the profile page. The brusher will also earn a “sticker” after each brushing which is placed in their sticker book. There are a variety of stickers and sticker books based on the theme of the timer.
Here is why I LOVE Disney Magic Timer App:
1. It’s easy to use! The main profile page is simple with only 3 icons making it easy to understand and navigate. It is even easy enough for the kids to use all by themselves!
2. It gets kids excited about brushing! My kids get so elated every time we get ready to brush our teeth. They love watching the on-screen bubbles get brushed away during their 2 minute brushing session. It keeps them engaged and focused on the task at hand.
3. It’s rewarding! My boys get so excited when they earn a new sticker and star. It really gives children a sense of accomplishment and success!
We all know how important it is for kids to brush their teeth twice a day, but it can be a daunting task. Disney Magic Timer app makes this task enjoyable, fun and successful!
