There’s just something about a fairy tale retelling. As someone who loves to reread books and rewatch my favorite shows and movies, maybe it’s the comfort of reading something slightly familiar alongside the thrill of seeing it turned on its head. Maybe it’s just because I’m a sucker for seeing how people can reinvent and completely reshape the same story. (I do enjoy some good fanfiction, after all.) Regardless, I love them. And dark fairy tale retellings that really tap into the grotesqueness of the original stories passed down from mouth to mouth? Oh, yes, please. I will gobble those right up.
After high school, Sofia Bella Pagán headed to college. Understandably, this was a big adjustment for her mom, Leah Remini. "It's the last day of high school for our baby girl. It feels like we dropped off our little nugget at kindergarten just yesterday. Her dad and I are a mess, as one could imagine," Remini wrote in an Instagram post in May 2022. She uses her wit, kindness, and her own magical abilities to try and convince the blue witch to change her ways. Throughout the story, Dorrie learns important lessons about empathy, understanding, and the power of friendship. She realizes that the blue witch is lonely and misunderstood and that her mischief is a result of her own unhappiness. Dorrie's kindness and compassion ultimately leads to a heartwarming resolution between Dorrie, Gink, and the blue witch. Dorrie and the Blue Witch is a charming and whimsical tale that teaches children the importance of kindness, forgiveness, and acceptance. It encourages readers to look beyond someone's outward appearance or behavior and instead tries to understand their feelings and intentions. With its colorful illustrations and engaging storyline, this book is sure to captivate young readers and inspire them to embrace empathy and compassion in their own lives..

I found "Dorrie and the Blue Witch" to be quite disappointing. The story lacked depth and the characters were underdeveloped. Additionally, I felt that the plot was predictable and lacked originality. The writing style was also unengaging, making it difficult for me to connect with the story. Overall, I found this book to be mediocre and wouldn't recommend it to others.

"Dorrie and the Blue Witch" was a complete letdown for me. The plot was slow-paced and uninteresting, failing to hold my attention. The characters felt flat and lacked any depth, making it difficult to care about their journey. The dialogue was also poorly written, with unrealistic conversations that felt forced. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in this book and would not recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting read.

I was quite disappointed with "Dorrie and the Blue Witch". The story had potential, but it fell short in execution. The pacing was uneven, with moments of action followed by long periods of stagnation. The main character, Dorrie, was not relatable and her decisions often left me frustrated. The book also lacked descriptive language, making it difficult to visualize the world the author was trying to create. Overall, this book didn't live up to my expectations and I would not recommend it.
