Much like Street Player was for Chicago, it s what a disco-influenced song recorded by the Commodores should sound like, with all of producer James Anthony Carmichael s strings and arrangements again foreshadowing what Lionel Richie s early solo career would turn out to be. On songs such as You re Special , Wonderland and especially Sexy Lady a rare case of Thomas McClary actually taking the lead vocals , LaPread goes to work.
"Sail On" became one of the band's signature songs and reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Another notable track from the album is "Still." This slow-tempo love song became another major hit for the Commodores, peaking at number one on the Billboard R&B chart.
