Aya and the Witch is a Japanese animated film directed by Goro Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. It was released in 2020 and is based on the children's novel called "Earwig and the Witch" written by Diana Wynne Jones. The film tells the story of a young girl named Aya who is orphaned and adopted by a strange set of foster parents. Aya's life takes an unexpected turn when she is taken in by a witch and a warlock, Bella Yaga and Mandrake. Initially, Aya is determined to outsmart the magical couple and escape their clutches. However, as she spends more time with them, she begins to learn about the magical world and becomes intrigued by it.

Aya and the Witch was a big disappointment for me. As a fan of Studio Ghibli's incredible portfolio of films, I had high expectations, but this movie fell flat. The animation style was a departure from the usual breathtaking visuals I'm used to, and it lacked the depth and emotion that I've come to associate with Studio Ghibli films. The story felt rushed and confusing, with underdeveloped characters that I couldn't connect with. Overall, I found myself questioning why Studio Ghibli decided to release this film, as it didn't live up to their usual standards.

I'm a huge fan of Studio Ghibli, but Aya and the Witch left me completely unimpressed.
