By admin

Holger Rune is a Danish tennis player who has recently gained recognition for his performance and rise in the ATP rankings. He was born on April 29, 2003, in Denmark and started playing tennis at a young age. Rune's breakthrough came in 2021 when he won the boys' singles title at the Australian Open. This victory made him the first Danish player to win a junior Grand Slam singles title since 1951. Following his success in the junior circuit, Rune transitioned to the professional level and began competing in various ITF Futures and Challenger tournaments. In September 2021, Rune won his first ATP Challenger title in Seville, Spain, defeating Pedro Martinez Portero in the final.

Holger Rune makes one thing clear about his current ranking

Holger Rune says he is "happy" with his world No 6 ranking but highlighted that he will be "satisfied" only when he reaches the top-ranking. Rune, 20, is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No 6 in the world. After winning his first Masters title in 2022 November, Rune also broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career.

“I just really told myself, ‘Okay, I don't want to be No 30 in the world and just stay here. I feel like I can be better and do better things, and I don't want to waste my potential. So I worked really hard," Rune told the ATP website.

Before the start of the 2023 season, Rune said he was aiming to become a Grand Slam champion and also reach the world No 1 ranking in 2023. “I'm happy to be No 6, but I'm not satisfied. And I don't want to end at No 6.

I want to be No 1, it's no secret. Right now I'm also trying to work 10 times harder than I did in the beginning of the year. So hopefully, everything will come together," Rune said.

In September 2021, Rune won his first ATP Challenger title in Seville, Spain, defeating Pedro Martinez Portero in the final. This victory propelled him to a career-high ATP singles ranking of 240. Later that year, he continued his impressive run by reaching the final of the Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

Rune hopes to have a big summer

This week, Rune is kicking off his summer on hard courts at the Toronto Masters.

After Toronto, Rune will also play at the Cincinnati Masters and US Open. For this year's US Open series, Rune is hoping to do well and make some big results. “The whole leadup to the US Open is really exciting. And these tournaments can really help you to build your game to be the best at the Open.

[The] better I can do at this tournament, that's [the] better chance I have to fulfill my dream there," Rune said. The US Open will be Rune's last chance to become a Grand Slam champion in 2023.

After a tough period with ten losses in 11 matches, Danish tennis prodigy Holger Rune got back on track at last week’s ATP 500 in Basel, where he reached the semi-finals.

It was the first tournament for Rune alongside six-time major champion Boris Becker as coach. The German will be working with the world No. 7 for the remainder of the season, including this week's Paris Masters where he defends the men's singles title.

“It's been great working so far with Boris, what we're working on is what you see on the court,” Rune told the ATP Podcast.

“There were a few adjustments that we made to be able to come back on track a little bit more. And I think that I was willing to do those small changes. I played some better tennis [in Basel] and I was fighting very well. Obviously didn't find my best level still, but I'm definitely building up more.”
