English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury “The Witch and the Bride”

Suletta, a 17-year-old girl from Mercury, has an eventful first day at her new academy. She locks horns with a hot-headed senior shortly after rescuing his betrothed.

Our Take:

If there was only one positive to say about The Witch from Mercury it would be that it is absolutely stunning to look at. Sunrise Studios usually do great but this is just them showing off. I’d say a lot of their Mobile Suit Gundam stuff in the last ten years has been pretty great. If you want to see some beautiful giant robot fights I think you are going to be in for a huge treat with this one.

There was a little bit of controversy with the dub cast list once it was announced. Jill Harris was announced as the voice of Suletta and people accused the people in charge of being racist. I would say it wasn’t too many people that felt that way and I can understand their feelings but I would say the best choice for the character is what is important. Let me tell you that Jill was absolutely the best choice to play Suletta. I’ve made no secret about the fact that I watched the sub of this first. When it came time to make a dub I was uncertain how they were going to find a VA that could nail down Suletta’s quirks and mannerisms but they did. I’ve always been a huge fan of hers and this might be her best role yet.

I will get into more of the dub cast as we go further along but this is one of the best dubs I’ve seen in a while. From the cast list to the presentation and everything in between. The great thing about this series is that it takes place in an alternate universe separate from the main timeline of Gundam so newcomers can watch this without worry. I’m very glad this wasn’t part of all the Crunchyroll delays.

The music of the series is composed by Takashi Ohmama. The anime is based on the original work by Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino.

Reviews for "The Witch from Mercurh Dub: A Journey into the Supernatural"

1. Megan - 2 stars
I was really excited to watch "Witch from Mercurh Dub" as I had heard great things about it. However, I was disappointed with the overall quality of the dub. The voice acting felt forced and unnatural, making it difficult for me to connect with the characters. Additionally, there were multiple instances where the timing of the dialogue seemed off, which made certain scenes feel awkward and disjointed. I think they could have done a much better job with the dubbing, as it ultimately took away from my enjoyment of the show.
2. Jason - 1 star
I found "Witch from Mercurh Dub" to be incredibly disappointing. The voice acting was incredibly mismatched with the characters, making it difficult for me to take the story seriously. The voices felt generic and lacked depth, which made it hard to connect with any of the characters on an emotional level. Furthermore, the dubbing seemed rushed and poorly executed, with lines often being delivered in a robotic and monotone manner. Overall, I was left feeling unsatisfied and would not recommend this dub to others.
3. Sarah - 2 stars
I had high hopes for "Witch from Mercurh Dub," but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The voice acting was subpar, with many of the voices sounding forced and lacking any real emotion. It's a shame because the original Japanese voice acting was fantastic, but the English dub just didn't live up to it. Additionally, the translation seemed off at times, with certain lines losing their impact or becoming confusing. Overall, I was disappointed with the dubbing of this show and would recommend sticking to the original version with subtitles.
4. Mike - 1 star
I couldn't get through more than a few episodes of "Witch from Mercurh Dub." The voice acting was absolutely horrendous, with the actors seemingly putting in no effort to bring the characters to life. The voices felt flat, uninspired, and completely devoid of any emotion. It was like listening to a group of people reading from a script for the first time. The poor voice acting completely ruined any chance I had of enjoying the show, and I would strongly advise against watching the dub version.
