History

Wilson has hosted minor league teams for a century now, and most of them have been called Tobs (short for Tobacconists).

From 1908 to 1910, they played in the Eastern Carolina League . They took home that loop's crown in 1909 and were leading the championship series in 1908 when play was suspended due to a tropical storm.

They next spent eight seasons in the Virginia League . During some of those seasons the team was known as the Wilson Bugs. They won the Virginia League championship in 1922 and 1923.

Wilson was also a member of the old Class D Coastal Plain League from 1939 to 1952. They won that league's championship in 1941.

The town hosted a Carolina League entry from 1956 to 1968. That team had great success winning the league championship in 1959, 1961, and 1963. The 1966 squad boasted future Hall of Fame member Rod Carew . Wilson returned to the Carolina League for one season in 1973 as the Wilson Pennants.

1. John - 1/5 stars - I was extremely disappointed with the Wilson Tobs mascot. The costume looked worn out and dirty, and it didn't even resemble the team's logo properly. The mascot's movements were awkward and clumsy, and it didn't engage with the crowd or entertain the children. It was a complete letdown and didn't add any value to my experience at the game. I hope they invest in a better mascot in the future.
2. Sarah - 2/5 stars - The Wilson Tobs mascot was just okay, nothing special. It lacked energy and creativity, and it felt like the person inside the costume wasn't putting much effort into interacting with the fans. The costume itself looked outdated, and it didn't have any unique characteristics that made it stand out. Overall, it was a forgettable mascot experience.
3. Mike - 1/5 stars - I found the Wilson Tobs mascot to be annoying and irritating. It seemed to be more interested in annoying the opposing team's players than entertaining the crowd. The constant loud noises and gestures were distracting, and it took away from the game itself. I would much rather have a mascot that adds to the fun and excitement of the game, rather than one that is just obnoxious.
4. Emily - 2/5 stars - The Wilson Tobs mascot lacked originality and creativity. It was just a generic animal costume without any unique characteristics or qualities that would make it memorable. The mascot barely interacted with the crowd and seemed disinterested in engaging with the fans. It felt like a missed opportunity to create a fun and entertaining atmosphere at the game. I hope they invest in a more interesting mascot in the future.
