Winter solstice pagan is a term used to describe the celebration of the winter solstice by pagan communities and traditions. Krispy Kreme Challenge:
“ 2400 calories, 12 doughnuts, 5 miles, 1 hour.” At NC State, donuts are more than just a late night snack, they are a symbol of competition and endurance. In December, 2004 a few undergraduate students got together and created a charity event known as the “Krispy Kreme Challenge”. The objective is for participants to run 2.5 miles from the Memorial Belltower to the local Krispy Kreme. Once contestants arrive, they must eat a dozen donuts before running back to the Belltower. The catch? All of this must be done in just one hour.

Class Ring Ceremony:
At NC State we choose to go beyond the standard tradition of only buying a class ring. Wolfpack tradition is that we also let it spend the night in the Memorial Belltower. The tradition is strong in symbolism; for students this act connects all the rings to NC State, those who have come before, and those still to come. The day after the ring spends the night in the Belltower, there is a formal ceremony for students and their families celebrating the new bond with the Wolfpack.

The Free Expression Tunnel:
The Free Expression Tunnel connects Central Campus to North Campus, and is the most direct route to the Brickyard. In the tunnel, all people are welcome to come and paint whatever they like, wherever they like. The high traffic area is the number one place for student organizations to advertise events, and for individuals to showcase artwork. Because the tunnel can be used to creatively express opinions, it can also be a center of controversy. However, when issues arise, students come together to stand up and speak out about diversity on campus. At the end of the day, everyone in the Wolfpack just wants to leave their mark and see their name painted on the tunnel wall.

Howling Cow Ice Cream:
Howling Cow is made on the NC State campus at the Department of Food, Bio-processing and Nutrition Science’s Feldmeier Dairy Processing Lab in Schaub Hall. What makes it so special (and delicious) is that it is made from a traditional recipe using fresh milk and cream from NC State cows! The ice cream is a hit every year at the North Carolina State Fair, and is sold on campus all year long. A variety of flavors awaits students, alumni, and visitors at the Creamery in DH Hill Library.
