Exploring the Different Witch Archetypes in Pathfinder Kingmaker

By admin

In Pathfinder Kingmaker, pursuing witches can be an interesting and rewarding path for players. Witches are spellcasters who wield powerful magic and have unique abilities that set them apart from other classes. They have a mysterious and intriguing allure that draws players in and offers a different playstyle compared to traditional spellcasting classes like wizards or sorcerers. One of the main draws of playing a witch in Kingmaker is the ability to choose a familiar, which is a special creature that aids the witch in their magical endeavors. Familiars can scout ahead, assist in combat, or provide helpful bonuses and abilities to the witch. This adds an additional layer of strategy and versatility to gameplay, as players can choose the familiar that best complements their playstyle and desired abilities.

The two best specializations in the CRPG are definitely Divination and Enchantment for school powers (effective +2DC to enemy saving throws in different ways is the big one, though only Divination works against everything) and Conjuration for an all around great school that has great, useful spells at every circle. OTOH, like you said Divination's spell list is barebones and Enchantment's is hard to apply in this game. But that's for Wizards. As an Arcanist your spell casting potential is divorced from what spells you end up preparing. So even if you end up memorizing different instances of Extended True Strike or Sense Vitals, it's not a nerf in either firepower OR versatility when compared to the standard Arcanist. IMO? Never oppose Evocation, Transmutation, Abjuration and Illusion and keep heed of Conjuration. When you blast, odds are you'll cast an Evocation spell. When you buff, its Transmutation. When you protect yourself, its Mirror Images. Enchantment and Abjuration have their own niches respectively for buffing and self defense. That leaves Necromancy and one other school, likely Divination. Now that I think about it, specializing in Divination and opposing Necromancy/Enchantment should net you the best of all worlds. Just use a bard for Enchantment buffs.

I actually used bucklers with unhindering shield to all my melees, it felt kinda cheat though because there is a general lack of bucklers even plain ones and had to craft them using a mod.

This adds an additional layer of strategy and versatility to gameplay, as players can choose the familiar that best complements their playstyle and desired abilities. Like other spellcasters, witches have access to a wide range of spells, but their spell list is unique and includes a variety of hexes. Hexes are specialized spells that can be used to debuff enemies, control the battlefield, or even heal allies.

For January’s Guild Tournament, you will be able to try out the 10 extra Pathfinder base classes for the first time! Every couple of days here on the website, I will introduce the Alchemist, Cavalier, Gunslinger, Inquisitor, Magus, Ninja, Oracle, Samurai, Summoner, and Witch!

The Witch

Some gain power through study, some through devotion, others through blood, but the witch gains power from her communion with the unknown. Generally feared and misunderstood, the witch draws her magic from a pact made with an otherworldly power. Communing with that source, using her familiar as a conduit, the witch gains not only a host of spells, but a number of strange abilities known as hexes. As a witch grows in power, she might learn about the source of her magic, but some remain blissfully unaware. Some are even afraid of that source, fearful of what it might be or where its true purposes lie.

Role: While many witches are recluses, living on the edge of civilization, some live within society, openly or in hiding. The blend of witches’ spells makes them adept at filling a number of different roles, from seer to healer, and their hexes grant them a number of abilities that are useful in a fight. Some witches travel about, seeking greater knowledge and better understanding of the mysterious powers that guide them.

Alignment: Any.

Hit Die: d6.

Starting Wealth: 3d6 × 10 gp (average 105gp.) In addition, each character begins play with an outfit worth 10 gp or less.

REMEMBER: To participate in the tournament, you MUST leave a comment on the Tournament announcement page and then finalize a character with the Grandmaster!

And with that, I think it's time for me to get into my Witch’s Hut and use its new Leap option to spin thrice and cast a 10 th -rank teleport away! Be careful not to get cursed out there, and keep your eyes of newt on this space for more Remaster news!

While I enjoyed playing Pathfinder Kingmaker, I have to say that pursuing witches in the game was quite disappointing. The whole questline felt underdeveloped and lacked depth. The witches themselves were not compelling characters, and the story surrounding them was predictable and uninteresting. The gameplay mechanics for pursuing witches were also tedious and repetitive, making it a chore rather than an enjoyable experience. Overall, I was left unsatisfied by this aspect of the game.
