The Orlando Magic coaching staff of 2023 consists of several experienced and knowledgeable individuals who are dedicated to leading the team to success. At the helm is head coach Steve Clifford, who has been with the team since 2018. Clifford brings a wealth of coaching experience to the table, having previously served as head coach for the Charlotte Hornets and as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, and Orlando Magic. Assisting Clifford is an experienced group of assistant coaches, including Pat Delany, Bruce Kreutzer, and Tyrone Corbin. Delany previously served as an assistant coach for the New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets before joining the Magic coaching staff in 2020. Kreutzer has been with the Magic since 2018 and brings a deep understanding of the game from his previous coaching positions at the college level.
Osceola Magic Name Dylan Murphy as First Head Coach
Dylan Murphy will become the first head coach of the Osceola Magic.
Murphy spent the last five seasons in the Orlando Magic organization – including two seasons as a basketball operations analyst (2018-20), providing analytics support to the coaching staff. He was promoted to assistant coach in 2020, where he has worked the last three seasons.
The Osceola Magic is the Orlando Magic’s entry in the developmental NBA G-League. The team operated as the Lakeland Magic, before moving to Silver Spurs Arena in Heritage Park in time for the 2023-24 season.
In making the announcement, Orlando Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman noted that “Dylan has done a tremendous job in regard to player development in his role as assistant coach with the Magic. He also brings past G-League experience to the position and we look forward to his continued leadership and seamless connectivity between the Osceola and Orlando Magic.”
In addition to being the first head coach in Osceola Magic history, Murphy was also the head coach of the Orlando Magic’s NBA Summer League team in 2023.
Murphy brings a wealth of basketball experience to the position. Prior to joining the Magic, he served as a graduate assistant coach at Ball State and spent one season in the NBA G-League as a scout for the Atlanta Hawks. In that role, he was responsible for identifying potential call-up candidates for the Hawks NBA roster.
Prior to Atlanta, Murphy spent three seasons (2013-16) as assistant coach of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA G League. In 2013-14, the Mad Ants won the NBA G League championship, posting a league-best record of 34-16 during the regular season and going a perfect 6-0 during their playoff run. In the following season (2014-15), the Mad Ants earned a second-straight trip to the G League Finals.

Kreutzer has been with the Magic since 2018 and brings a deep understanding of the game from his previous coaching positions at the college level. Corbin, a former NBA player himself, brings his own playing experience and coaching expertise to the team. Additionally, the Orlando Magic coaching staff includes a team of player development coaches who work closely with players to help them improve their skills and reach their full potential.

The Orlando Magic only have one player on the roster that is over 30 years old and Utah Jazz fans know that player very well.
Joe Ingles, at 36 years old, joined the Magic in free agency. The Orlando front office and coaching staff made it clear to Ingles that he would play a different role than he was used to but sold him on the idea of mentoring the youthful roster.

Ingles has been pleasantly surprised with how much fun he’s having as the most seasoned veteran on the Magic squad, and head coach Jamahl Mosley is overjoyed with the honesty and maturity that Ingles brings to the team.
“The thing about Joe is that when you see him as you’re coaching against him, he’s probably telling you the exact same thing when you’re coaching him, just in a different tone, and even some days it’s not the nice tone,” Mosley said with a laugh. “You know what you’re getting, because he’s going to tell you the truth, whether you like it or not.”
At the tail end of his NBA career, Ingles was realistic with what his role was going to be when he went to Orlando. He knew he wouldn’t be playing a lot of minutes, he knew he likely wasn’t going to start games, but most importantly he knew that he was wanted and that the Magic valued him.
“Everyone has been fantastic and I’m having a great time,” Ingles said. “It’s been really nice and I’m happy.”

Part of what Mosley is hoping he can teach the young players is what it takes to have longevity in the NBA — and not just the stuff that happens on the hardwood. Mosley wants Ingles to show his younger teammates that how you treat people matters, the respect you have for the game matters, and that fun matters.
Mosley wanted all of that, but he wanted it to come from a place of authenticity. Well, lucky for Mosley, Ingles doesn’t know how to do things any other way.
“He just, he’s him, and I think that’s the best thing that I can say,” Mosley said. “There’s no fluff, it’s not fake, he’s gonna show up 100% authentic to who he is and I love that about him. And our guys love that about him. He’s changing our locker room with his maturity — not just because of his age — but because of how he approaches the game as a professional.”

With the Orlando Magic’s hopes of making the Play-In essentially finished, they continue to show glimpses of what might have been had they won some more games this season.
Thursday night’s 111-106 victory over the New York Knicks the latest example of how good this group can be on any given night.
Point guard and possible Most Improved Player winner Jalen Brunson did not play, but the Magic still survived both Quentin Grimes and Immanuel Quickley putting up 25 points each.
It was a solid win that continued to show how much the Magic are continuing to grow and mature as a team. Everyone is still focused on trying to make the postseason run while they are still mathematically alive. But there is a definite vibe the team knows it is playing to establish itself for something beyond this year.
This group includes coaches who specialize in shooting, defense, and strength and conditioning. Overall, the Orlando Magic coaching staff of 2023 is a well-rounded and experienced group of individuals who are committed to helping the team succeed.
