Good Anime about Wizards/Magic? (1 Viewer)

Anyone care to recommend serious anime series about wizards and magic? A few silly jokes here and there are ok but I'd like to avoid the full-on parodies. Bonus points if there's spell research / magical item creation / discovery of ancient magical secrets.

Mahou Sensei Negima has only one real wizard, the main character. Still, it lives up to your bonus criteria; Negi isn't the most powerful wizard around, but he really excels at stuff like enchantments and magical theory. There aren't many ancient magical secrets, tho'.

XXXholic. It's subtler than most of the fantasy anime out there -- I'd almost compare it to Hellblazer, but with less cussing and lower body count.

Actually, in the same vein, Card Captor Sakura. Seriously.

I'm don't recommend watching any of anime adaptations because they fail both as adaptations and overall. Reading manga though is highly recommended.

If go by classics then Records of Lodoss War. Or possibly Slayers, which despite all jokes are pretty serious overall. If about new ones then i recommend Rental Magica and Kaze no Stigma. Or Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha.

Reviews for "Manga's Most Beloved Magical Creatures: Unveiling the Witch and Wizard Bestiary"

1. Jennifer - 2/5
I was really looking forward to reading "Magical manga featuring witches and wizards" because I am a big fan of manga and magical stories. However, this book left me feeling disappointed. The plot was predictable and lacked originality. The characters were one-dimensional and I found it difficult to connect with them. Overall, the story felt rushed and it seemed like the author didn't put much effort into developing it. I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating and well-written magical manga.
2. Alex - 1/5
"Magical manga featuring witches and wizards" was a complete letdown for me. The artwork was amateurish and poorly executed. The characters looked stiff and lacked expressions. It was hard to distinguish between different characters because they all seemed to blend together. The storyline was confusing and fragmented, making it difficult to follow and engage with. I had high hopes for this manga, but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. I would not recommend wasting your time or money on this poorly illustrated and poorly written book.
3. Sarah - 2/5
As a fan of the magical genre, I was excited to dive into "Magical manga featuring witches and wizards." However, I found the story to be unremarkable and lacking in depth. The magical elements were poorly explained, leaving me with more questions than answers. The pacing was also off, with slow sections dragging on for too long and important moments feeling rushed. The artwork, though colorful, lacked detail and didn't showcase the beauty and whimsy that I associate with magical manga. Overall, this book fell short of my expectations and didn't deliver on the magical experience I was hoping for.
4. Michael - 2.5/5
"Magical manga featuring witches and wizards" had its moments but failed to make a lasting impression. While the artwork was decent, the plot felt cliché and uninspired. The characters were forgettable, and their motivations were poorly developed. There were also several inconsistencies throughout the story that were hard to overlook. The book had potential, but it failed to deliver a unique and captivating magical tale. I wouldn't necessarily discourage others from giving it a try, but I personally found it underwhelming.
