About the Author

MARY POPE OSBORNE is the author of the New York Times number one bestselling Magic Tree House series. She and her husband, writer Will Osborne (author of Magic Tree House: The Musical), live in northwestern Connecticut with their three dogs. Ms. Osborne is also the coauthor of the companion Magic Tree House Fact Trackers series with Will, and with her sister, Natalie Pope Boyce.

SAL MURDOCCA has illustrated more than 200 children's trade and text books. He is also a librettist for children's opera, a video artist, an avid runner, hiker, and bicyclist, and a teacher of children's illustration at the Parsons School of Design. 1. Jane - 2 stars - This book didn't grab my attention like the previous ones in the series. The plot felt rushed and underdeveloped. The characters lacked depth and their actions seemed forced. I also found the writing style to be too simplistic for my taste. Overall, I was disappointed with this installment and it didn't live up to my expectations.
2. Mark - 3 stars - While I enjoyed the previous books in the Magic Treehouse series, book 4 fell short for me. The historical setting felt contrived and not well-researched. It seemed like the author tried to cover too much ground in a short book, resulting in a lack of depth and substance. Additionally, the dialogue felt forced and unrealistic at times. Overall, I found this book to be underwhelming compared to the earlier installments.
3. Sarah - 2.5 stars - I found Magic Treehouse book 4 to be predictable and unexciting. The storyline lacked originality and failed to captivate my interest. The illustrations were also quite simple and unimpressive. While I appreciate the educational aspect of the series, this particular book didn't offer much in terms of learning opportunities or engaging content. Overall, it left me wanting more and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
