LG Magic Remote: Connecting TVs and Smart Devices with Ease

By admin

The LG magic remote is a universal remote control that allows users to control various devices through a single interface. It uses wireless connectivity to connect with other devices, providing a seamless and convenient user experience. The main idea is that the LG magic remote offers easy connectivity with other devices, eliminating the need for multiple remotes and simplifying the control process. Whether it's a TV, Blu-ray player, set-top box, or streaming device, the magic remote can easily connect and control them all. This connectivity is achieved through either infrared or Bluetooth technology, depending on the device being controlled. The magic remote also features a Point and Click function, allowing users to navigate on-screen menus and content by simply pointing and clicking.

This is probably a setting on the TV itself where you can set what it displays when you start up. You may be able to set it to display a specific input, or to start up displaying the same input that was being used when the set was turned off.

With a One For All universal remote control for your LG television, you can control the TV and other electronic devices with just one remote control including your Blu-ray player, DVD player, game consoles, home theater, streaming devices and many more. When you choose to install your universal remote control using the SimpleSet feature, you are just three steps away from connecting your remote control to other electronic devices.

I have this same exact is with my second LG tv in my home. The Rokus are both less than a week old. The one on my older LG tv works as expected. The newer one when I use the Roku remote to power tv on, which it does, instead of going to the Roku Home Screen it starts off with the LG Home Screen. The Roku remote does nothing at this point except power the tv on or off. I need to use the magic remote to select the input which immediately takes me to the Roku remote which then becomes active.

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand that you're having trouble with the set up of your TV with the Roku streaming device. It seems like this issue is likely within the TV itself. It may be best to contact your TV manufacturer and inquire further about the issue.

We hope for your understanding regarding this.

All the best,
Kash

This is probably a setting on the TV itself where you can set what it displays when you start up. You may be able to set it to display a specific input, or to start up displaying the same input that was being used when the set was turned off.

Another possibility is you may be able to get the TV to switch to the input to which you have the Roku connected automatically:

  • Enable "1-touch play" via Roku menu path Settings > System > Control other devices.
  • If your TV supports CEC (Consumer Electronic Control) on the HDMI port to which your Roku is connected, when you press a Roku control button in the Roku remote, the TV will come out of standby if necessary and switch to display the Roku's HDMI port.

On some sets you may need to have the TV do a scan or search first to identify connected CEC devices. Also, some sets may not have CEC enabled by default and you may need to turn it on.

Unfortunately many tv manufacturers call the CEC function by their own proprietary names. Some common ones:

• AOC: E-link
• Hitachi: HDMI-CEC
• LG: SimpLink or SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC)
• Mitsubishi: NetCommand for HDMI, Realink for HDMI
• Panasonic: VIERA Link, HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync
• Onkyo: RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI)
• Philips: EasyLink
• Pioneer: Kuro Link
• Runco International: RuncoLink
• Samsung: Anynet+
• Sharp: Aquos Link
• Sony: BRAVIA Link, BRAVIA Sync, Control for HDMI
• Toshiba: CE-Link, Regza Link

Some other names shared by multiple manufacturers:
• Fun-Link, INlink, T-Link

Reviews for "How to Connect your LG Magic Remote to Gaming Consoles and Streaming Devices"

1. John - 2 stars - The LG magic remote claims to have great connectivity with other devices, but I found it to be quite disappointing. The remote frequently disconnected from my TV and had trouble connecting with other devices in my home theater setup. It was frustrating and time-consuming trying to troubleshoot the connectivity issues, and I ended up having to resort to using multiple remotes for different devices. Overall, I was not impressed with the remote's ability to connect and would not recommend it to others.
2. Sarah - 1 star - I had high hopes for the LG magic remote's connectivity with other devices, but it fell short of my expectations. It was advertised as being able to seamlessly control all my devices, but in reality, it was a constant struggle to get it to work with even just my TV. The remote often lagged and would freeze when trying to connect with other devices, making it a frustrating experience. I ended up giving up on using the magic remote altogether and reverted back to using the traditional remotes for each device. Save yourself the hassle and opt for a different remote control option.
3. David - 2 stars - The LG magic remote's connectivity with other devices was a letdown for me. While it did connect with my TV without any major issues, trying to connect it with other devices was a different story. The remote struggled to pair with my soundbar and constantly lost connection with my Blu-ray player. It felt like a constant battle to get all my devices to work seamlessly with the magic remote. In the end, I decided to go back to using my old remotes, which provided more reliable connectivity. Disappointing, to say the least.
