The Golden Rule of Witchcraft: Ethics and Honesty in Magic

By admin

There are countless stories and folktales that feature witches, both good and evil. However, the theme of honesty versus deceit is a common thread that runs through many of these tales. The concept of an honest witch versus a deceitful witch raises interesting questions about morality, trust, and the consequences of our actions. In traditional folklore, witches are often depicted as evil and deceitful beings who use their supernatural powers for their own selfish gains. They are known for casting spells, brewing potions, and manipulating others for their own benefit. These witches are often portrayed as cunning and untrustworthy, using their powers to deceive and harm those around them.

Thoughts on The Witch Patrons for WOTR

So this is something that I've been looking at the last few days and I've noticed that the Witch Spellbook is. . . probably my absolute favorite despite being so limited compared to the other Arcane casters in the game.

Witches have a lot of Arcane spells and whatever feels like it is missing are usually have their spaces filled via the Patron system.

The Patrons are basically the source of your Witch's powers and your choice can dramatically change exactly what purpose your Witch shall play in your gameplay.

Agility: Expeditious Retreat ,Cat's Grace, Haste, Freedom of Movement, Polymorph, Cat's Grace, Mass Polymorph, Greater Polymorph, Greater Polymorph, Greater

Ancestors: bless, aid, prayer, shield of dawn, burst of glory, greater heroism, Bestow Grace of Champion ,Angelic Aspect Greater ,weird

Deception: Vanish Invisibility Displacement Confusion Phantasmal Web Serenity Invisibility, Mass Angelic Aspect, Greater Weird

Devotion: Divine Favor Invisibility Magical Vestment Confusion Flame Strike Bull's Strength, Mass Bestow Grace of the Champion Holy Aura Heal, Mass

Elements: Shocking Grasp Acid Arrow Fireball Dragon's Breath Flame Strike Acid Fog Caustic Eruption Polar Ray Icy Prison, Mass

Endurance: Stunning Barrier Bear's Endurance Protection From Energy Thorn Body Spell Resistance Bear's Endurance, Mass Restoration, Greater Polar Ray Seamantle

Healing: Remove Fear Restoration, Lesser Remove Disease Restoration Cleanse Pillar of Life Restoration, Greater Cure Critical Wounds, Mass Heal, Mass

Insanity: Color Spray Hideous Laughter Hold Person Confusion Mind Fog Serenity Insanity Cure Critical Wounds, Mass Overwhelming Presence

Mercy: Shocking Grasp Eagle's Splendor Remove Curse Restoration Cleanse Inspiring Recovery Resurrection Euphoric Tranquility Heal, Mass

Shadow: Vanish Blur Displacement Shadow Conjuration Shadow Evocation Phantasmal Putrefaction Shadow Conjuration, Greater Shadow Evocation, Greater Shades

Strength: Divine Favor Bull's Strength Heroism Divine Power Righteous Might Bull's Strength, Mass Legendary Proportions Frightful Aspect Heroic Invocation

Transformation: Longstrider Bear's Endurance Beast Shape I Beast Shape II Beast Shape III Dragonkind I Dragonkind II Dragonkind III Shapechange

Winter: Snowball Resist Fire Protection from Fire Ice Storm Icy Prison Cold Ice Strike Ice Body Polar Ray Polar Midnight

Now I find it genuinely rather hard to choose between all of these Patrons as they are all pretty great, honestly I'd be less torn if there was a Mythic "Gain a second Patron" feat like there is for Sorcerer Bloodlines and Oracle Curses and Shaman Spirits.

But of them all. . . I personally think that Deception is the most useful for certain builds, with Elements being the best for Blaster Witches (because Fireball AND Flamestrike), with Shadow perhaps being the most versatile though it does need a Mythic feat for it to fully withdraw it's main drawback.

But other then that you have some really interesting stuff here. At first I found Ancestors a bit odd because of it's final spell. . . but thinking on it I REALLY like it thematically.

Agility and Transformation are two that I . . . don't quite understand the appeal of atm. But then that's only because I've never really touched any kind of Polymorphing or Shapechanging classes. Thematically I suppose that they could fit with the Demon mythic class because that also has a lot of transformation spells.

Strength seems like a great choice for it you want to force a Off-Tank Melee Witch, buff before going into the fight, and hit from the backrow.

Mercy, Ancestors, Devotion and Healing feel like "Divine Caster Lite" and though are nice kind of feel redundant when we already have three supurb Full Divinely Casting Casters in the game. Though of the four I like Ancestors and Devotion the most.

Winter LOOKS great honestly but I've heard nothing but since release about how the Prestige Class it is built for has been broken

So ultimately it's always a coin coss between Deception, Elements, and Shadow for my characters. They feel like they have the most overall coverage for the Witch Spell List without feeling redundant by your companion NPCs.

What about the rest of y'all? What is your favorite Witch Patron and do you have thoughts in general on the rest?

Some years back, a newspaper reporter called me to solicit my opinion on an elderly woman’s so-called “divinely inspired concoctions.” Her little shop of mystic wonderments peddles oils, herbs, sprays, and candles that claim to bring love into your life and even get others to obey your every command. As the reporter described the woman’s mixtures, supposedly potent enough to solve any problem known to man, I couldn’t help but see mental images of the apostle Paul wrestling the beast at Ephesus. But I digress.

These witches use their powers for good, helping others and using their abilities to bring about positive change. They are known for their integrity, honesty, and kindness. Rather than using their powers for personal gain, these witches use their magic to bring healing, protection, and justice to those in need. The dichotomy between honest and deceitful witches forces us to examine our own moral compass. It reminds us that the choices we make have consequences, and that our actions can have a lasting impact on those around us. While deceitful witches may seem appealing at first, their actions ultimately lead to their own downfall. Their dishonesty and manipulative behavior only serve to isolate them and bring about their own undoing. On the other hand, honest witches exemplify the power of integrity and the importance of using our own gifts and abilities for the greater good. They remind us that honesty and righteousness can be powerful tools for positive change. By staying true to their values and using their powers responsibly, honest witches serve as beacons of hope and inspiration for others. In conclusion, the concept of honest versus deceitful witches reminds us of the timeless struggle between good and evil. It challenges us to examine our own actions and the impact they have on those around us. Ultimately, the stories of honest witches serve as a reminder that honesty, integrity, and the desire to do good are powerful forces that can overcome even the darkest of intentions..

Reviews for "The Magical Truth Serum: How Honesty Enhances Witchcraft"

1. John - 2/5
I was really excited to read "Honest witch deceitful witch" after seeing all the positive reviews, but unfortunately, it fell short for me. The characters were incredibly one-dimensional and lacked depth, making it hard for me to connect or root for any of them. The plot was also quite predictable, with no real twists or surprises. Additionally, the writing style felt clunky and rushed, with the author often favoring telling rather than showing. Overall, I was left disappointed and would not recommend this book.
2. Emily - 3/5
While "Honest witch deceitful witch" had an interesting concept, I found the execution to be lacking. The pacing was uneven, with some parts feeling rushed and others dragging on. The world-building was also insufficient, leaving me confused about the rules and dynamics of the magical world. Furthermore, the dialogue felt forced and unnatural, making it hard to believe in the characters' interactions. Though the book had potential, it ultimately didn't deliver in terms of storytelling and left me feeling unsatisfied.
3. Sarah - 2.5/5
I had high hopes for "Honest witch deceitful witch" as it had been recommended to me by a friend, but it didn't live up to the hype. The writing style was overly descriptive, bordering on tedious, and it took away from the overall flow of the story. The characters lacked depth and development, making it hard to feel invested in their journeys. The plot seemed promising at first, but it quickly became predictable and lacked any real surprises. I appreciate the effort, but this book just didn't hit the mark for me.
