Spells, Crafts and Lore of the Magickal Grape

It has been a long time coming that the grapes in our yard have finally begun to offering up tiny fruit. Most likely due to several factors that we’ve narrowed down: a) the soil is not 100% to their liking and b) they are not full sun (they get only the morning and early afternoon sun). They’ve been struggling along the past few years quite slowly but this spring? They decided they had enough of the shade and began reaching over to the other side of the shed.

And in case you are curious, we are replanting next year and moving as many as we can to the south side once the extension has been finished on the garden shed and screen house.

I was so excited yesterday to walk by the plant and see these tiny little grapes peeking out from behind the leaves! What a treat!

So I decided to do a little research on Grapes and their magickal properties.

Magickal uses of the Grape

Increasing prosperity in your life:

  • If you are working with increasing prosperity in your life you may want to consider adding a few grapes (and eating them) during your spell crafting and visualizing the energy of the grape helping to attract abundance “to you”.
  • You can also place grapes on your altar for money spells. From personal experience, the grapes don’t always dry out nicely so you might want to put them in a small ceramic bowl if you intend on leaving them out afterwards. If you have a nice altar cloth you may stain it if you are using a dark coloured grape.
  • It is also traditional and used in various cultures, to hang grape leaves in the kitchen to help draw prosperity into the lives of those who live in the home. If you don’t have access to grape vines and leaves? Maybe you could paint grapes on your walls as the ancient Romans did. (They also painted leaves to increase fertility in the garden.)

Grape Leaf Wishes:

I love this little spell! If you are lucky enough to have grapes growing on your property, take a large enough leaf (please properly remove the leaf and leave an offering) to wrap around a piece of paper you have written a “wish” onto. Sometimes you can even find the leaves in your local stores as they are often used for pickling cucumbers (my mom used to add a grape leaf to every jar of pickles she made).

There are variations of the colour of string you can use depending on the wish in question (Green for money, red for love – you get where I am going here). Take your leaf after you have infused your wish into it and bury it on the west side of your property.

No fear or worry if you live in an apartment or don’t have a yard, you could use a planter filled with earth that is located in that side of your balcony outside or even a small pot inside of the house.

Grape Vine Pentacle Wreath Craft

For you crafty folks, how about making a grape vine pentacle to hang in your home? http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/lammascrafts/ss/Grapevine_Pent.htm Thank you to Patti Wigington for this tutorial on making this lovely hand made wreath. Now before you get all squirmy and panic worrying about the fact that you don’t have access to natural grape vine? Keep on reading.. I’ve got you covered with an idea so you can make one of this with what you can find locally.

That’s my wreath in the photo .. I started with a standard grapevine wreath that I picked up at a local craft store instead of making my own out of vine. Micheals often carry these in various sizes (from very very tiny to OH MY GOODNESS where are you going to hang this its so large!)

Starting with the already made wreath design I used another type of wood to make the pentacle inside – I was not living here at the time and didn’t have access to natural grape leaves and vines, so I used “representations” of the plant. I wanted to keep my wreath design very simple so I did not add a lot of other items to it (often I have lots of sparkles and glitter.. tiny little birds and other critters tucked and hidden deep inside of other wreaths that I make. This one was simply for bringing protection and prosperity into the home.

The wood used inside of the wreath are green garden stakes that are joined together at the tips of the pentacle with green gardening wire (not the heavy wire but the soft bendy wire – yes I have had to re-tighten the wire from time to time as the cats have knocked it off the wall on occasion trying to get at the little branches you see) You can even get away with using green twist ties if you need to – they do work very very well as they tighten up very snug.

In order to get a good pentacle design, lay the wood work out on a flat table and create the pentacle BEFORE you attach it to the vine wreath. It is much easier to create the star and then add it later. Once you have the pentacle done, you can easily attach it to the wreath afterwards by using flexible wire – and most likely you’ll never see the wire you used when you turn it over to view it from the front.

The pentacle will sit further back behind the wreath circle, so you can probably just hang it using the horizontal section of the star (no need for a hanger to be placed on the back).

You could also embellish your wreath by adding other symbols of prosperity There are quite a few beautiful herbs and decorations that you could add to your piece to help charge the wreath for the purpose you are seeking. But that’s another blog post all together. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this little tidbit in the neat things you can do with Grapes!

1. Samantha - 2/5 - I was really excited to try "Grape witchcraft sorcery" based on the name and description, but I ended up being disappointed. The flavor was not what I expected, and it had a weird artificial taste to it. It also had a strange aftertaste that lingered for too long. I had high hopes for this product, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations.
2. Michael - 1/5 - "Grape witchcraft sorcery" was a complete disaster. The flavor was extremely artificial and tasted like cheap grape-flavored candy. It was overly sweet and lacked any complexity. I couldn't finish the bottle and ended up throwing it away. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking for an authentic grape flavor.
3. Jessica - 2/5 - I was not impressed with "Grape witchcraft sorcery". The flavor was too overpowering and tasted more like a grape-flavored cough syrup than an actual beverage. It had a strange chemical taste that was off-putting. I was really hoping for a natural grape flavor, but unfortunately, this drink fell short. I won't be purchasing it again.
4. Bryan - 2/5 - "Grape witchcraft sorcery" was a disappointment. The taste was so artificial that it was almost unbearable. It reminded me of a grape-flavored soda that had been sitting open for days and lost its fizz. The aftertaste was lingering and unpleasant. I would not recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a refreshing grape beverage. There are much better options out there.
