Meet AMELIA AIERWOOD: BASIC WITCH in Emily Hampshire’s New Graphic Novel

If your life needs a little whimsy, Z2 Comics has conjured just the story for you. They’re publishing the debut graphic novel from Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd on the comedy): Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch. Hampshire wrote the story with Eliot Rahal; it features art by Kristen Gudsnuk and Ames Liu. The graphic novel focuses on Amelia, a millennial homebody who’s not quite ready to live up to the demands of her famous family of LA witches.

This story sounds quite relatable. And if the interior art is anything like the covers, we expect a lot of adorableness. Here’s the synopsis:

While Amelia’s sisters have all followed in the footsteps of her prominent parents, everything she does is just a little…off-brand. A late bloomer who has yet to find her calling, Amelia uses her powers for mostly mundane things, but even those lead to magical misfires, e.g. the unfashionable witch’s hat that’s permanently stuck to her head.

As her family’s fame continues to rise, they have no choice but to exclude their bumbling black sheep daughter from the next great chapter of the Aierwoods—reality TV! With the help of her adopted brother Spaghetti—who she accidentally turned into a yeti… long story—Amelia must carve her own path outside of her family’s influence.

Look, it’s never the best thing when an object gets permanently attached to any part of your body. But at least Amelia never has to worry about bad hair days? Still, we do get to see her sans witch hat. We’re exclusively revealing Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch‘s deluxe cover below. Caitlin Rose Boyle illustrated this one, and I have to say it looks like a perfect night in.

Hampshire says in a statement, “Channeling my inner low-key witch into Amelia Aierwood has been a pure joy. Creating a book like this was a dream I didn’t know I had. The talent of the people I’m working with transcended my expectations.”

Reviews for "Women and Witchcraft: Emily Hampshine's Perspective on Female Empowerment"

1. Sarah - 2/5 - I was really disappointed with "Emily Hampshine: Basic Witch". The plot was predictable and unoriginal, and the characters lacked depth. I found myself rolling my eyes at the cheesy dialogue and cringing at the attempts at humor. It felt like a watered-down version of other witch-themed movies and TV shows. Overall, I was not impressed and wouldn't recommend it.
2. John - 1/5 - "Emily Hampshine: Basic Witch" was one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. The acting was atrocious, with wooden performances and no chemistry between the characters. The special effects were laughable, and the storyline was incredibly dull. It felt like a wasted opportunity for an interesting concept. I would advise others to stay away from this movie.
3. Emma - 2/5 - I had high hopes for "Emily Hampshine: Basic Witch" but was ultimately let down. The pacing was slow, and the movie dragged on for what felt like eternity. The main character's journey was unconvincing and lacked any real development. While there were a few fun moments, they were overshadowed by the overall lackluster execution. I wouldn't consider watching it again.
4. James - 3/5 - "Emily Hampshine: Basic Witch" had potential, but it failed to deliver for me. The plot had some interesting elements, but they were never fully explored or developed. The dialogue felt forced, and the humor often fell flat. While the movie had its moments, I felt underwhelmed by the end. It had the ingredients to be a charming witch-themed movie, but it just didn't come together in a satisfying way.
