About 12 30pm the same day, I got a text from my mechanic letting me know that the front 3 spark plug cylinders were the ones that had damage, all three coils were damaged, and the spark plugs in those 3 cylinders needed replacement. Business Profile for Magic Clean Car Wash & Detail Shop

On 01/30/2021, at about 8:00am, I dropped off my 2011 Hyundai Vera Cruz to have it detailed (including engine compartment). When I dropped off my car, it was in good mechanical repair and working order. It was low on gasoline, but no warning lights on the dashboard were illuminated at the time that I dropped the car off. I picked up the vehicle about 3:00pm on the same day. The vehicle looked great both inside and out. I gladly paid the establishment $200 for the service plus a 30% tip for a total of about $277. I left the business and drove across the street to the Dollar Tree. After I was done making purchases at Dollar Tree, I proceeded to my daughter's apartment in Midvale (about **** * and Main St in Midvale UT). According to Google Maps, I drove about 3.5 miles. My fuel light had come on so I knew I'd need to get gas when I left my daughter's apartment. I parked my car and went into my daughter's apartment to help her with some things. About 4:15pm (or so), I left my daughter's apartment in Midvale (about **** * and Main St in Midvale UT). Knowing I needed gas I headed directly to the Maverick gas station at **** * Main St in Midvale. According to Google Maps, I drove about .2 miles to get to the gas station. As I approached the gas station I noticed that my engine was starting to sputter a bit, and I assumed I was about to run out of gas. I filled my tank full with about $45 of gas, and departed the station heading North on Main Street in Midvale (as I was heading to the I-15 on ramp at *****). I noticed when I started my car that the engine was still sputtering and rough. I assumed I had been lower on gas than I'd initially thought and that the gas just needed to move through a bit to settle down the idle. I travelled north on Main Street in Midvale until just past the Midvale Justice Court at which point I turned left to go over to 700 West (Holden Street in Midvale). At Holden Street, I turned right and headed North again. The engine got even rougher and more knocking I could feel the engine sort of "coughing" and "banging". Just before the over pass for the TRAX train to cross over Holden Street (near the Sinclair station on 700 West in Midvale UT), my check engine light came on and started flashing (not a solid check engine light a flashing one). I've been told in the past by my mechanic that 1) If my check engine light is flashing and 2) The engine is rough, that I should STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY. So, I pulled over to the side of the road, and turned on my hazard lights. I'd driving about .6 of a mile (according to Google Maps) from the time I had left the Maverick to get gas. According to Google maps, I'd driven a total of about 4.3 miles since I'd left Magic Clean to pick up my vehicle, and now was undriveable. I called AAA to get my car towed; I called my mechanic to let them know to expect my vehicle; I called my husband to let him know; and I called my daughter to let her know as well. I told all of them that the car had been detailed (including the engine compartment earlier in the day) and now it seemed like the car was "choking" or "coughing". It was about 4:40pm when I'd completed all the phone calls; I waited for AAA to arrive. When AAA arrived at about 5:40pm, the driver asked me what was happening to my vehicle. I told him that I'd had the car detailed earlier in the day (including the engine compartment) and now the engine was not working properly and the check engine light was flashing. The car was towed to my mechanic in Sandy UT. I've known and used this mechanic for about 30 years. By the time my vehicle arrived to my mechanic, they were closed (as it was after 6pm on Saturday 01/30/2021). My mechanic is not open on Sunday. On Monday 02/01/2021, at about 9:40am, I received a text from my mechanic stating that the spark plug cylinders were full of water, and he would let me know the extent of the damage once he'd dried out the engine. About 12:30pm the same day, I got a text from my mechanic letting me know that the front 3 spark plug cylinders were the ones that had damage, all three coils were damaged, and the spark plugs in those 3 cylinders needed replacement. I told him to go ahead and take care of the repairs. (I'm heading on a 2500 mile car trip on Sunday 02/07/2021 and I needed my car running in good order). On Tuesday, 02/02/2021 at about 12:45pm, I received a text from my mechanic that my car could be picked up. I got a rider over to the mechanic later in the afternoon and picked up my car and paid my mechanic $417.00 (plus tax) for these repairs. I asked my mechanic if the cleaning of the engine compartment would have caused this damage and he told me yes. I asked his opinion on if I should call Magic Clean and let them know about the issue. Again, he said yes. I left the mechanic about 2:30pm, and immediately called Magic Clean from my cell phone. I spoke to the woman who answered the phone and explained what had happened. I was met with the following: 1) I didn't work on Saturday, 2) I've never heard of anything like this happening in 21 years, 3) YOU should have brought the vehicle back here and our mechanic next door to us would have fixed it for you (however, my car couldn't be driven, they were closed as it was after 5pm on Saturday 01/30/2021, and I didn't know for sure yet what was wrong with my vehicle so I wanted it with a mechanic I already knew and trusted with a 30 year relationship), 4) I don't know what we can do, 5) I'll ask around and see if anyone remembers a blue Hyundai Vera Cruz being here on Saturday, 6) No I don't need your name and number I have caller id No offer of a refund, no apology, nothing but blaming me for the situation and deflecting responsibility as she wasn't there on Saturday. I waited and thought about this situation and think that my best remedy at this point is to file a complaint with the BBB so that the issue is documented. I am asking for a full refund of my detailing service from the company. If possible, I'd also like the company to pay for the repairs to my vehicle, which cost $417.00 (plus tax). Thanks, **** ******
