When Muriel sends Eustace to sleep on the roof, he drops his glasses and can't see. He thinks that the TV antenna is a monster and the chimney is a snake. Then he falls down the chimney and he thinks Muriel is a monster, so he captures her, takes her on the roof, and makes her eat mushrooms that had started growing on him.
