The History of Amulet Backhoe Thumbs and Their Evolution

By admin

The amulet backhoe thumb is a specialized attachment for a backhoe that is designed to enhance its digging capabilities. It is an essential tool for construction and excavation projects where precision and control are required. The backhoe thumb works by exerting a gripping force on materials being dug, allowing the operator to manipulate them with greater accuracy. One of the key features of the amulet backhoe thumb is its ability to rotate independently from the backhoe arm. This allows for a wider range of movement and makes it easier to position materials in the desired location. The thumb also has adjustable tension settings, allowing the operator to fine-tune the grip strength based on the materials being handled.

For items that can be shipped residential: We offer 3-7 day shipping through USPS, UPS, and FedEx.

We confirm all machine-attachment compatibility before processing any orders, and will reach out to you directly to get any information we need in order to do so. We took the extra precaution to remove the battery ground during the process so no damage from the welding could carryover to the tractor s electrical system.

I couldn't decide which forum to post this in. I finally decided it was more of a welding job than anything for me. Anyway, I ordered an Amulet thumb for a customer's Caterpillar 305 CR excavator Friday. They have to build it and ship it to me. I expect to see it the coming Friday and put it on Saturday. I will definitely post pictures before, after, and during. It should be a fun job. The hydraulics are already on the machine so all I really need to do is weld the brackets for the cylinder and thumb, mount them, and make the hoses to the cylinder.

I quoted my customer $3000 for the job.

I definitely will tack and test first. Especially since it is my first time installing a thumb that wasn't a factory kit.

There should be instructions for welding the thumb brackets on. If it uses separate small brackets for the cylinder and thumb hinge pins, they can be welded all around. If it uses a large mounting plate with the cylinder and hinge mounts already attached, only weld on the sides lengthwise with the stick/boom. Don't weld across the top and bottom (across the width of the stick). That's an application where you could use Shield Arcs suggestion to put silicone seal across the boom to keep moisture from getting under the plate.

I have welded a little but in no way am I a welder. Why wouldn't you weld all the way around?

These are the welding instructions I have so far. We'll see if they send any more with the thumb.

It would add stress to the stick welding straight across it. The instructions show curved ends and also to leave a space un-welded in the middle. I'm sure Shield Arc could explain it better than I could.

I hired a pro welder to attach the cylinder bracket plate to the dipper stick on my tractor's subframe mounted backhoe. The instructions for the weld process were quite detailed and clear. they said to fit the thumb onto the hoe and gave an area in which to locate the plate. They said to clean all paint from the weld area, to dry fit the plate and test the fitment before welding. We did this and then tacked the late to retest actual fit. Once verified, we welded ONLY along the sides of the plate and stick, NOT across as clearly stated in the directions.
We took the extra precaution to remove the battery ground during the process so no damage from the welding could carryover to the tractor's electrical system.
The work cost $150, and took a couple of hours to complete from start to finish. The results are good.

Reviews for "FAQs about Using an Amulet Backhoe Thumb"

1. John - 2 out of 5 stars. I recently purchased the Amulet backhoe thumb and I have to say I am quite disappointed. The quality of the product is subpar and it feels flimsy. I was expecting a sturdy and durable thumb, but unfortunately, that is not what I got. It also doesn't fit properly onto my backhoe, causing it to constantly slip off. I would not recommend this product if you are looking for something reliable.
2. Sarah - 1 out of 5 stars. I was really excited to add the Amulet backhoe thumb to my equipment, but it turned out to be a waste of money. The thumb itself is poorly designed and doesn't grip properly. It constantly slips and doesn't provide the necessary stability I was looking for. The construction feels cheap and I don't trust it to hold up under heavy use. Save your money and find a better quality backhoe thumb.
3. Mark - 2 out of 5 stars. The Amulet backhoe thumb did not meet my expectations. The installation process was a hassle and the instructions were not clear. Once installed, I found that the thumb lacks the strength and stability I need for my daily tasks. It feels like a cheaply made accessory that won't last long. I regret buying this product and would not recommend it to others.
4. Emily - 1 out of 5 stars. The Amulet backhoe thumb is a complete disappointment. It was difficult to attach it to my backhoe and even after managing to install it, it just doesn't work as it should. The grip is weak and it doesn't have enough strength to hold onto larger objects. This is definitely not a reliable and efficient backhoe thumb. I regret buying it and would advise others to look for better alternatives.
