The story takes place in Alzano Empire, which is the home to one of the most distinguished magic schools in the world: The Alzano Imperial Magic Academy. Here, ambitious young students undergo training to become competent magicians. Sistine Fibel, a stern noble girl, and her bright-eyed best friend Rumia Tingel attend the Academy, determined to cultivate their magical skills.

However, their world is thrown for a loop when their favorite teacher suddenly retires and the enigmatic Glenn Radars replaces him.       • He later meets and befriends his colleagues, Albert Frazer and Sara Silvers.

      • In 1850, Glenn is tasked to apprehend Las Waterloo, with Sara, where he defeats him but lets the Heretic Mage's experiment, Camilla, escape from his lair.
      • Following the mission, Sara brings him on a 'date' to meet the people he managed to save. This leads to a fight between the two where he dismisses her kind intentions.
      • Later, Camilla reappears before him, and requests that he allow her to have his blood in order to save her. This leads to Sara confronting her, injuring herself in the process.
      • Albert then berates Glenn for putting his dreams ahead of everyone else, instead of trying to understand why does someone like Sara choose to care for him.
      • Following Albert's advice, he confronts Camilla to execute her, who thanks him for saving her.
      • After these events, Glenn vows to protect Sara as someone important to him.
      • During an infiltration mission, Glenn learns the Baile Del Viento dance from Sara, as part of their cover.
      • After surviving Sara's teachings, he remarks that she might've turned into a berserker from the dance.
      • On April 4, 1852, Glenn visits the Alzano Imperial Magic Academy with Sara to ask Celica for money, but flees after she attempts to vaporize him with Extinction Ray for his request.
      • He also unknowingly assists Sistine Fibel in her duel against Karen Nasir by using Fool's World to negate the senior student's spells.
      • He later departs the Academy with Albert and Sara on a mission involving Jatice.
      • Glenn is assigned to apprehend Jatice with Sara, under Eve's orders.
      • After Sara is killed, he manages to defeat Jatice, certain that he killed him.
      • Following this mission, he deserts the Special Missions Annex, and returns to live under Celica.
      • He then denounces Magic as the reason for his misery, slowly developing a distaste for its powers.
