In vielerlei Hinsicht schon bei Erstveröffentlichung ein Abzocke-Album. "Disguises", "Run Run Run", "Doctor, Doctor" und "Bucket T." kannte man schon von der LP "A Quick One". "I Can't Reach You" und "Our Love Was" waren bereits auf "The Who Sell Out" zu finden. "Call Me Lightning" war bereits als Single veröffentlicht. Der Zusatz "on tour" zum Titel der LP könnte einem unbedachten Käufer eventuell den Eindruck eines Live-Albums vermitteln, oder? Mies mies mies, meine Herren. aber alles in allem kann einem das auch völlig egal sein, denn betrachtet man rein den musikalischen Aspekt, dann finden sich auf dieser LP elf Songs, von denen kein einziger durch das gemeine Raster des Nichtgefallens zu rutschen vermag. 11 Kompositionen, welche zu Recht in den Olymp des Pop-Himmels einziehen durften. Für mich The Who auf der Höhe ihres Schaffens - und da meines Erachtens nach "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" mit dem typischen tiefschwarzen Entwhistle-Humor auf keiner anderen Original-LP der Band veröffentlich wurde, kann der wirkliche Fan diese LP auch knapp 44 Jahre nach ihrem Erscheinen nicht entsorgen. Phänomenal gutes Album!

PublishedHmmm. I'm not sure quite how to rate this album. It's necessary for the Who completist as there are many songs unavailable elsewhere except as bonus tracks on some of their album re-masters on CD. Still, the overall quality of the music isn't that high. There was a reason many of these ended up as B-sides after all. Still, there's some true gems here, including "Disguises"; "Call Me Lightning"; and "Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde", one of Entwistle's best B-sides. The true Who fan will already possess at least half of these songs on other albums, so this one is somewhat redundant. And of course, this album has absolutely nothing to do with the Who being on tour.
