The most obvious likely woods to me is the Mistwood the large copse of trees in the Consecrated snowfield is past the Forbidden Lands and Ranni was said to be quite young when she met the witch, not impossible but seems unlikely despite it being snowy; the grove on the north side of Raya Lucaria is also a candidate but fairly small, hardly having any depth to it. Fortifying the idea that it's the Mistwood, aside from its size and relative ease of access from Liurnia is the fact that the Siofra River and Nokron are right below, and this area ends up being where Ranni sends us after the star lands. If the snow crone resided in and below the Mistwood, it would make sense that she would have imparted onto Ranni knowledge of the treasures of the city.
