Motown magic coloring pages

I'm wondering if anyone has performed the "Fun Magic Coloring Book" for only adults. I was performing for kids and some adults saw me do it. They told me they were amazed. (And I thought everyone knew the secret of this one.)

I'm thinking of putting this in my show for adults. I could explain to them how I do the trick for kids - I use hypnosis without them knowing it. I then demonstrate mass hypnosis on the audience and make them believe they have colored the book. What do you think about this? I think this has the potential to be very strong. Just because it looks like it's for kids doesn't mean it's only for kids.

I got the idea from Denny Haney, who hypnotized my 9 year old son using a Svengali deck to believe that all the cards look the same. My son was quite impressed. He came home and told his siblings and mom that he had been hypnotized. Hypnosis can be cool.

Mel Mellers has a 'colouring book' routine for adults on one of his dvd's (I think it's on Tickling the Mind Vol 1) using the stamp album version that is available from dealers for about $10 ! He uses a presentational angle very similar to the one you mention and he calls his routine Mass Hypnosis.

I have noticed that the adults really get into this when I am performing it for kids. I think your idea might have a lot of merit. Let us know how it works out.

I have a version of the book that I made myself. I pasted tasteful, but scantily clad pictures from another publication into the blank pages of my coloring book.

I talk about how my tastes in pictures have changed since I was a kid doing this trick.

The basic method is still very effective, so no wonder adults are impressed. The reason we think of it the way we do is that it's sold in every magic shop in the world and every beginner buys one! I think you might want to figure out a different look for the book (why use a coloring book?) The stamp album idea is good, at least it doesn't look like a kid trick. And it's easy enough to gaff a book to work with the short/long principle.

Have fun and experiment! I think with the right script, the coloring book or the stamp album could be effective for adults. Why should we think of these only as kid show tricks?
