Witches, Wizards, and Friendship: The Themes of 'The Worst Witch' (1986)

By admin

The Worst Witch is a British television series that aired in 1986. It is based on the book series of the same name by Jill Murphy. The show follows the adventures of Mildred Hubble, a young witch attending Miss Cackle's Academy for witches. However, Mildred is a bit of a bumbling student, always getting into trouble and failing to impress her teachers. One of the main storylines in the show is a rivalry between Mildred and another student named Ethel Hallow. Ethel is perfect in every way and always manages to outshine Mildred.

Despite the bumps, the film was at least entertaining. The acting is good. Balk makes us care about her character. We want to see her finally succeed. But it is hard to get around the dated feeling of this 18-year-old production. I recommend it for younger kids who like HARRY POTTER, and for everyone else, I recommend just watching any of the HARRY POTTER films.

But in light of the monster success of Rowling s boy who lived book series and its big budgeted feature films, THE WORST WITCH, sadly, looks like a pale imitation. In this bonus episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew is joined replaced by their friends over at The Haunted Davenport podcast, and they re geeking out over The Worst Witch 1986.

Ethel is perfect in every way and always manages to outshine Mildred. This creates a lot of tension between the two girls and often leads to amusing mishaps and misunderstandings. The show also features a cast of colorful characters, including Miss Cackle, the strict headmistress of the academy, and Miss Hardbroom, a no-nonsense teacher who is constantly exasperated by Mildred's antics.
