Last night Hardaway put on a brilliant display, literally taking the Magic on his back and carrying them to a 99-91 victory over the Heat in front of 17,248 frantic fans at Orlando Arena. Hardaway put together a 48-minute, 41-point game that left Pat Riley wondering what he was going to do come Sunday when the two teams play a pivotal Game 5 at Miami Arena.
Tuesday night, Hardaway led Orlando to an 88-75 victory in Game 3 with 42 points.
The winner of this series, now tied 2-2, will play the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
“It was one of those things where I got into a rhythm again real early,” said Hardaway, who scored 27 points in the first half. “As long as I make shots early, that sets the tempo and opens things up.
”
Hardaway scored 26 points in the first half of Orlando’s Game 3 win.
“We all know he’s a star in this league, but he has demonstrated the last two games that he’s going to be one great superstar in this league,” Orlando coach Richie Adubato said. “I gave him a break the other day; he played 47 minutes. I couldn’t give him one minute today.

“There is an old saying that the playoffs don’t start until the home team loses a game,” Riley said afterward. “That’s what it has come down to. We had an opportunity to close it out, but we ran into a very committed basketball team that we are going to have to deal with.

Miami tried to double-team him early in the game, but after Penny knocked down a couple of shots, Riley abandoned the tactic and decided to play him straight up for the rest of the game.
“All season long, we prided ourselves on playing people straight up and down,” Riley said. “But obviously he has been absolutely brilliant thus far.
“He came out on fire in the first quarter and that’s a decision we’re going to have to make, how much do you want to break down your defense to stop him? We’re going to have to analyze that.
